Greetings Camp Otterdale Friends and Families!
Summer has arrived in full regalia and the first day of camp is just around the corner! Our full complement of staff are arriving as you read this! They bring more energy and a spirit that fills the team with enthusiasm and are ready to embrace our 2016 staff theme: Underway and Making Way………
The “busy” meter has kicked into high gear as the Leadership/Work Crew team and myself complete all the projects we have on the go! Cabin upgrades, staining, program set-up, grass cutting and surprise repairs.
I’m always impressed by how quickly my team learns the skills to tackle all these projects. This is the time of year when new skills are acquired and old skills are honed…….all to be ready to pass some of those crafts onto the younger staff and the campers. Underway and Making Way…..we are moving forward with a focus on preparing for our campers to arrive.
- A variety of herbs and vegetables have been planted along with hundreds of sunflower seeds!
- The sailboats are got a facelift as did the canoes….all ready for Otter Lake adventures!
- New Windsurfers arrived this week!
- Archery has received a facelift with new targets, bows and arrows!
- Tanglewood’s cupboards jam packed with craft supplies…..Bring on the creativity!
- Every part of camp…….from the cabins to the kybos……..from the archery range to the kayaks, bikes and basketball nets are tuned up and ready for our campers!!
Camp Otterdale’s new website
We are delighted to invite you to check out our new website, campotterdale.com
There, you will find information about the camp activities, registration our philosophy and mission, my staff and answers to the questions you may have about what to pack and how to prepare for attending camp. As well, you will find links to the following under the Parent section:
Bunk 1: Sign up for this email service as a way to send messages and love to your children while they are at camp
Packing Checklist: We have freshened this checklist to help you and your camper pack, for camp and for their Counsellors to use when it is time to repack to head home. Please print off the form and send it in their luggage. We will do our very best to make sure everything makes it back to you.
An email will be sent out to campers and families just before their session begins. It will include a variety of information pertaining to frequently asked questions, to help guide you to getting everything ready to go! In the meantime, please remember to update any medical information and complete the camper information form if you have not submitted. It helps their Counsellors know what goals, issues and thoughts they may have as a starting point to a successful Camp Otterdale experience.
We are about to embark on Otterdale’s 61st summer (my 21st) of learning and creating new friendships and playing fun games. We are…..“Underway and Making Way……” Let the adventures begin!
Yours in camping,
Jeff “Captain” Brown
