Special Thanks & Welcome
The Powell Street Festival Society (PSFS) would like to give a special thanks to Chisaki Muraki-Valdovinos, who resigned from the PSFS Board of Directors. The society is incredibly grateful for her dedication throughout her many years spent on the Board, and wishes her well on her exciting new developments in Seattle.
From Chisaki
What started as a short-term stint in Vancouver had turned into eight years by the time I joined my husband in Seattle this January. I am thankful for the great memories made with the people I met volunteering with the Powell Street Festival and working in the Downtown Eastside. 2014 has already been full of changes including a new home and a new job at the City Seattle in transportation planning. But the biggest change for us will be in mid-September with the arrival of a Baby Girl! We are excited that she will grow up with memories of going to the Powell Street Festival and catching up with her Vancouver friends every summer.

We would also like to extend a warm welcome to our most recent additions to the Board of the Directors: Hiromi Mikasa and Cam Frewin. Hiromi joined the Powell Street Festival Society’s Board in January 2014 and Cam joined the Board in March 2014.
Hiromi Grace Mikasa
Hiromi Grace Mikasa is an Academic Director at a private English school. She grew up going to the Powell Street Festival and has seen it grow over the years. She wants to be part of the board to make the festival a summer custom for everybody and share all of the wonderful art, good food and the great vibe. She also hopes to bring some of my Human Resource knowledge that she is currently gaining to the board.
Cam Frewin
Cam Frewin is a commercial real estate professional providing real estate services for the four Lower Mainland health authorities in Vancouver. He received his Bachelor of Commerce from UBC and his work experience includes real estate positions in both Hong Kong and Japan. He has a keen interest in Japan and has spent many years studying Japanese, including a one-year language exchange at Sendai Ikuei Gakuen Highschool. He has many fond memories of attending the Powell Street Festival and appreciates the festival’s importance in the community. He is committed to helping the Powell Street Festival Society achieve continued success in the many years to come.
Both members have been a valuable part of the team since and we are grateful to have them on board!
Kazuho Yamamoto
PSFS would like to offer a warm hearted welcome back to Kazuho Yamamoto as our Administrative Assistant. Kazuho worked previously at PSFS as the Production Coordinator and the Administrative Assistant. She is currently a member of Advocacy Committee. It is a pleasure to have her back in the office what with her wealth of knowledge in a variety of communities, including the DTES, Japanese Canadian, and festival communities!
