eILV online!
CIE provides a new service for you: a searchable online database of the International Lighting Vocabulary. Currently only available in English it shall be expanded by further languages enabling you to get the proper translation of terms.
Just click on to get immediate access to all terms and definitions (> 1400) of the current version of the ILV (CIE S 017/E:2011). They  can all be found in the database, incl. the according number in the ILV.
To get a list of terms containing a certain word or fraction of a word the database can be searched through by using different search options.
We invite you to give feedback ( to make the tool even more useful for you.

CIE Training on the Metrology of LEDs and LED Modules postponed!

On November 28 and 29, 2012 (instead of October 16 and 17) the next training will take place in the CIE Central Bureau in Vienna and will be chaired by Prof. Dr. Janos Schanda.

You can participate either in “real life” in the Central Bureau in Vienna or wherever you are during the seminar by using our live streaming facility and our online training tool.
Its Goal: Summarizing fundamental differences in the measurement of traditional light sources and LEDs as well as LED modules.
Its Target group: Anybody interested in solid state lighting, the photometry and colorimetry of solid state devices, especially LEDs and LED modules. 
Subjects to be covered are the following:
Fundamental differences between LEDs, LED modules and LED lamps as well as traditional light sources (LED structure, thermal differences, aging and life-time)
1. The most basic terms used with LEDs and
     LED modules
2. Photometry of LED devices (differences
     compared to traditional light sources):
     a. Gonio-photometry, with special emphasis of
     absolute photometry of LED sources
     b. Integrating sphere photometry
     c. Spectroradiometry, with special emphasis on
     band-width and stray light effects.
3. Colorimetry of LEDs and LED modules
     a. Tristimulus colorimetry
     b. Problems with the CIE 1931 colorimetric system
     c. CIE TC 1-36 based colorimetry and
     practical experience
The lectures will be accompanied by demonstrations and hands-on experiments.
