2016

the year of the move

We're in a full season. Amber continues to love her work with OMEGA. Matthew quit the bank and is not teaching this semester, but continues two of his other jobs and his studies. Add into this the prep for Thailand and our schedules (read sanity) feel stretched.

There have been some wonderful highlights in the midst of the busy. We took time over Christmas to visit Matthew's family in Ontario. We were hoping for a White Christmas but got to wear t-shirts instead! Across the board, we feel God has timed some key events in the lives of loved ones in a way to allow us to be a part of them. That's life-giving.

The kids are starting to understand more and more about our upcoming transition. It's a mixed bag for them and it's a lot for little minds to process.
Daxon has become quite proficient at how to wai (short bow with hands clasped in front) and Zala is enamored with the idea of the Sky Train (raised metro system) in Bangkok.

Highlights of this season include Amber sharing at We Cultivate, teaching workshops alongside Megan and Zach at SPARK Pre-Teen Conference, having a reunion with the OMEGA students from last year, and as part of Amber's work with the BC / Yukon District Missions Committee we shared alongside Darcy McAlister at a workshop for pastors and missions committee members about best practices for churches and Global Workers.

With the arrival of 2016, the transition to Thailand has become that much more real to us. Thank you for journeying with us.

Tripping to Thailand

so much more than a visit  [feb 23 - mar 2]

Before we move to Thailand, we're visiting. There's something powerful about having your feet on the ground. It's connected. It's present. It's immersive. We visited Slovakia before moving there. We walked the streets of Włocławek until our legs hurt as we prayed through the decision to move. And at the end of this month we are headed to Bangkok for a week - a place Matthew has not been in 10 years and somewhere Amber has never been.

We will be meeting with team members from Imagine Thailand, exploring Sathorn, the neighbourhood in Bangkok we'd like to call home, visiting potential language schools for us and schools for Daxon, and asking for divine insight to the place we will soon call home. At the end of the week, we're taking a day for ourselves to pray, talk, listen, and pause (this is a full season of life).

Funding Update

from you | thru us | to Thailand

When it comes to fundraising, the goal is always to hit 100%. Carrying debt while engaged in cross-cultural work has crippled many and so we want to do this part well. We have every confidence that it is God who provides - and He is creative and faithful.

Before we can begin the dialogue about booking tickets and leaving, there are a few milestones we need to hit - these benchmarks range from training, to logistics, to funding.

Our fundraising goal was to be at 50% (pledges and funds in our account) by the end of January. Presently we are at 47%. This is a great number and we feel empowered by everyone who has come on board. Within that number we hit one of the prerequisites - to have enough funds in our account to prep, transition, and cover the first 3 months of expenses!

We want to move before the school year begins in August to provide as much consistency as possible for Daxon. We ask that you take some time and pray through if God is asking you to be a part of this journey through financial support. It's an investment in us and in Imagine Thailand, but greater than any of us, it is an investment into what God is doing in Thailand.
