As July wraps up we are wrapping up our life in Canada. It's time to go to Thailand!

going, going, and soon to be gone

Thank you for praying with us for our visas. All four of us are now holders of single-entry visas. These will get us into Thailand for 90 days. During that window we will apply for the documents that will allow us to stay for a year. Admittedly, we'll breathe easier once we hold those papers (Poland has left visa nervousness in our hearts). With our visas issued we booked tickets!

We leave Canada on August 9th and will arrive in Thailand on August 10th.

We have secured a long-stay hotel for the remainder of August that is within 10 minutes walking distance from Daxon's school (which begins on August 18th). It gives us a place to land and allows to explore the area and not hastily select a rental apartment to call home.

Life is packing, suitcases, selling our worldly goods, logistics, and farewells. We are full of anticipation, powered by coffee, kept on task by lists, and trying to keep a great sense of humour about it all. It's been a big push to get to this point. God is good.

a month on the road

We began the month in Ontario as part of our time on the road connecting with supporters and churches and farewelling friends and family. On the 3rd we shared at a church and weaved our way through the cottage country exodus for Amber and the kids to enter the security lineup at Toronto Pearson with less than an hour before take off. They made their flight and made their way home via Saskatoon and Calgary, and the airline only lost track of one car seat. Major Mom points to Amber for this trip!

Matthew stayed on in Ontario and there were monumental moments that took place. Whether it was powerfully divine moments at Mount Zion Camp or having the kids pray for Matthew OVPC (see picture), there was so much encouragement that came from that week. Matthew flew back to Ontario and less than 12 hours later we were in the car (minus the kids) driving 13 hours north.

It's a lot, but more than being an interruption, this being on the road is our chance to love on and invest in the Canadian church. Thank you to everyone who helped make it possible.

engaging mission as a family

As we prepare for the milestone of moving, we celebrated another marker on the journey - Zala turned three! She's articulate, imaginative, full of adventure. We love her so!

All of the transitions are visible in our kids' behaviour and attitudes - especially Daxon. It's been challenging. As parents, we flip between feeling as though we are doing this to our kids and then to feeling just south of our last nerve (very south at some points). Pray for us as we parent our children through this and engage missions as a family.

If you see us between now and our departure, we have a request for you: use words of celebration and not grieving. Refrain from saying how far away we will be or how much you will miss us. Rather enthuse over the great adventure and opportunity that awaits our family. Both the grieving and the celebrating are true. We want to rejoice more than we mourn.

If you're looking for ways to engage your children, check out Missions and Kids (MAK). Watch Zala and Daxon's video on the MAK Facebook page.

filling up the tanks

To conclude the month we are spending time with Matthew's family as we celebrate his youngest sister's ordination - congratulations Rebekah! It was great to be present for this and to take some time together as a family. It fills up our tanks and we'll be drawing on those reserves soon enough.

Rebekah and Benton are part of a church planting team in South Surrey, BC. Check out The Crossing and keep them in your prayers as they grow.

as we go, this is where our finances stand

Though we are going, we have not yet raised our full budget. Towards the new year we wll need more people to join our financial team. Prayerfully consider joining our monthly financial team. We are grateful for the investments that are helping us launch and we see God's provision in the short amount of time it has taken to get us to this point. He'll keep providing!

Even if you are unable to give at this time but know you can give in the future, you can set this up online or by contacting the PAOC office.

we believe there is strength in numbers

  • top notch parenting as we walk our children through this transition
  • logistics of selling off, packing up, traveling, apartment hunting, and Daxon going into school
  • we have a 2014 Dodge Caravan SXT to sell or have someone take over our payments. It's our last major item to sell (besides a glass dinning room table) and we're trusting God to help with this process
  • financial provision to get our budget to 100%
  • that every hour of sleep we get would feel like two as we are operating beyond full capacity right now
