Nearly a year has flown by since the Evelyn Frank Legal Resources Program
transitioned from Selfhelp Community Services and was welcomed into our new
offices at the New York Legal Assistance Group. Our six staff are busy as ever
helping seniors and people with disabilities navigate recent cataclysmic changes
that pose new barriers to accessing Medicaid long-term care services. Our
advocacy keeps people in their homes, resisting pressure for them to enter nursing
homes. Our in-depth articles posted on NYHealthAccess.org along with training and
one-on-one consultations keep thousands of social workers, lawyers, and other
professionals informed about these changes, thereby expanding our impact to
help even more clients. We also act as a whistleblower, alerting government
administrators of policies that are harmful to the elderly and disabled, such
as those highlighted in the this article from The New York Times - Advocates Say Managed-Care Plans Shun the Most Disabled Medicaid Users.
Please support us and help us continue to fight for the rights of
seniors and people with disabilities.
