StudioAMWA Call for Art!

Calling all artists! AMWA is celebrating 101 years of game-changers, revolutionaries and leaders. Help us celebrate by submitting your original artwork for a chance to be featured in the Studio AMWA online gallery. What’s your journey? ‪#XXMarksTheArt‬

To ensure a democratic process with great inclusiveness, candidate speeches and voting will be conducted online, right at your fingertips. Please take a moment to view the list of candidates and their speeches here. All active national medical student members are eligible to vote until February 26th, 2016. Results will be announced on Saturday night March 12. 2016, at the 101th Annual Meeting in Miami.
This will be the first year of National Women Physician Day, and it will be taking place on February 3rd - the 195th birthday of Elizabeth Blackwell. We are encouraging women physicians across the country to celebrate their accomplishments by using the hashtags #NWPD and #IAmBlackwell.
Safiyah Hosein is an M.D. candidate at University of Massachusetts Medical School, Class of 2016. She hopes to pursue a career in OB/GYN with a focus on reproductive health. While at UMass Medical she has served as co-chair of her AMWA branch and Medstudents for Choice chapter. She has also pursued research in the field of contraceptive choice and post partum depression. She has been involved in AMWA nationally as the Region 1 director in 2013 and by serving on the Diversity and Inclusion committee.

Haley Manella is an MD candidate at Tufts University School of Medicine class of 2016. Her involvement with AMWA began during her first year at Tufts when she joined her chapter’s student board as Liaison and then the following year she was granted the opportunity to serve as Region 1 Student Director. Haley looks to make a meaningful impact and hopes that her role in AMWA can help to advance advocacy for the rights of women and children around the world.

February is International Prenatal Infection Prevention Month and National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month.
The first week in February is African Heritage and Health Week.

February 3rd is Elizabeth Blackwell's Birthday (the first American woman to receive a medical degree) and February 24-March 2, 2013 is National Eating Disorders Awareness Week.
