STUDIO AMWA ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

2016 AMWA Artist-in-Residence Award is now accepting applications until December 31. The role of the artist in residence is to create an artistic project pertinent to AMWA and women in medicine to then be displayed (or performed) at the following year’s annual meeting. This application is open to all member artists including painters, visual artists, sculptors, dancers, poets, writers, musicians, tailors, filmmakers,  designers, comedians, puppeteers or any other art form. PATH CLOTHING DRIVE
January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month and PATH is continuing its tradition of hosting a clothing drive to serve shelters that care for trafficking survivors. If you are interested in becoming a donation drive leader and making this collection a success, please contact Michelle Lyman at melyman@health.usf.edu as soon as possible and click here to find out how to collect items for survivors of trafficking!

2016-2017 National RESIDENT Leadership Positions

  • Interested in leadership while in residency? AMWA Resident Division is accepting applications for their national leadership positions until January 31, 2016.

2016-2017 National Conference Co-chairs position

  • ATTENTION: Now open to applicants IN ALL STATES until Dec16th!
  • Two applicants will be selected to serve as our AMWA national conference chairs for the 2017 Annual Meeting in San Francisco.
  • This highly esteemed position offers you the opportunity to demonstrate and apply the breadth of talents you possess. Given that the chairs will play a vital part of our biggest event of the year, the chairs-designate will be supported with one-on-one mentorship to further refine their leadership skills.
  • Coordinate with AMWA headquarters to plan the Annual Meeting Student Division content and logistics as well as accommodations for student attendees.
  • Serve on the AMWA Conference Planning Committee.
  • Work with the Treasurer to coordinate grant-writing to subsidize costs.

Interim Region 7 Director

  • Region 7 states: AR, IA, KS, MN, MO, NE, ND, OK, and SD
  • Update and maintain region’s local leadership contact information
  • Organize new branches at medical schools that do not have an active branch
  • Hold a regional conference, regional retreat, or other event at some point in the year with the help of the Regional Event Grant.
  • Generate and distribute a quarterly regional student newsletter
  • Call in to the monthly Regional Student Meetings and update the national leadership on your successes and achievements.
  • Email your one paragraph personal statement to secretary@amwa-student.org

LGBTQA Student Chair

  • The LGBTQA section of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee is looking for student members including a student chair.
  • Remember the A stands for Allies and we would love to have more committee members from both LGBT groups and Allies.
  • We are working on a position paper for AMWA.
  • We have also gotten an excellent film called States of Grace about a Lesbian physician and her struggle to accept her new disabled body.

As AMWA continues to grow on a national level, we realize that local branches are growing as well. One of the ways that AMWA is able to accomplish our mission and grow is through our Corporate Membership program. Currently, national leaders seek new corporate members and in-kind donors. DECEMBER PROGRAMMING IDEAS
National Gingerbread House Day - December 12th 
  • Host an event where members bring candies to decorate gingerbread houses, and at the end, give out awards to the “Most AMWA House” or “Most Medical”!
 
Get Active! Work Off that Steam!
  • Host an exercise class (Zumba, yoga, aerobics, spin) where AMWA members can come together to release stress and stay fit! Consider making this a monthly event on your chapter’s schedule!

AMWA CHAPTERS IN THE SPOTLIGHT
UACOM-Phoenix
The AMWA chapter at the University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix along with their American Physician Scientist chapter hosted "Women Physicians in Research", which featured a panel of 5 female physicians that have made research a prominent part of their career. They also celebrated AMWA’s 100th Birthday!
 
OUWB hosts Syrian Crisis Conference
Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine hosted the Region 6 conference entitled "The Syrian Crisis:  The Female Narrative".  The conference featured Syrian American physicians who have spent time working in the Zaatari refugee camp in Jordan working to provide both preventative care and chronic disease management. December is Drunk and Drugged Prevention Month, AIDS Awareness Month and December 10th is International Human Rights Day.
