Welcome to 2016
A new year has begun and it’s good to be back in the Caribbean after spending sometime in the cold. Here in Trinidad we are preparing for what is billed as “The Greatest Show On Earthâ€, Trinidad Carnival on 8-9th of February. Carnival is early this year and the country is already in a party mood. From now until 9th February there will be parties and concerts every week with tourists coming from all over the world to participate and listen to the sounds of sweet pan music. It’s the biggest street party you will ever experience. On the Wednesday after Carnival many take to the beach, especially Maracas Bay and Tobago, our sister isle, to continue the party. It’s all about music, sun, sea, sand and fun.

Keeping those New Year Resolutions
What’s your New Year’s resolution? Perhaps it’s to make it to the gym on a regular basis or eat healthier. Maybe it’s to increase your finances or spend more time with family and friends. Here are the top 10 New Years resolutions according to the Statistic Brain Research Institute : Lose weight, get organized, spend less save more, enjoy life to the fullest, staying fit and healthy, learn something exciting, quit smoking, help others in their dreams, fall in love, spend more time with family.
According to this research institute about 45% of Americans make New Year resolutions but only 8% are able to follow through on their resolutions. But don’t be discouraged. The research shows that people who make resolutions are more likely to commit and change than those who just try to change.
Tips to help you succeed with your resolutions.
1 Keep it simple
Large bucket lists and extreme makeovers are a sure way to fail. Instead of having a long list pick one or two key things that you wish to achieve in 2016 and work out a plan to make it happen.
2. Make it tangible and realistic
If you want to lose weight indicate how much weight you want to lose and give a realistic time frame in which to do so. Rather than saying I want to lose weight say instead I want to lose 30 lbs and work out a schedule for doing so over the next couple of months.
3. Be specific
Set clear ambitions such as walking or running every Tuesday at a specific time rather than every week. Being specific helps you to keep focus and allow you to achieve your goals. When I was creating my book I decided to write for one hour every day between 9 and 10 am. I was able to do this on most days because I had created a specific time and it worked.
4. Work with a coach
Trying to make major changes in your life can be tough when doing it alone. Many people struggle with the same issues year after year because they have no one to motivate them or keep them on track. Working with a coach can help you keep things in perspective, set attainable goals and increase your chance of succeeding. A coach will guide and encourage and hold you accountable.
