Dear Bank Street Community,

Anytime White people are silent on issues of violence against Black people we become part of that violence. We, as members of the Collegewide and School for Children White Anti-Racist Affinity Groups (WAAG), stand with the Black Lives Matter movement. We commit to being vocal in our solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, and we commit to ensuring that our support doesn’t end with just a statement. We own that we as White people have caused harm to Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) in our community. We hold ourselves accountable to further action, and we demand that White leadership hold themselves accountable to further action as well.

We want to know what Bank Street College as an organization will commit to in order to uphold anti-racist work. We need explicit plans on how we will live in fulfillment of these values. These plans need to be sustainable and actionable and need to include mechanisms for accountability. We call for a mandate from leadership to work on our own racism as a part of our job expectations.

WAAG facilitators are offering times in the coming months for White people to stay engaged in this work.
