Constellation, CMAC to Fund Free Nov. 18 Flu Clinic for Community
Constellation Brands – Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center (CMAC) and Constellation Brands, Inc. are funding a flu clinic on Thursday, Nov. 18, at Gleaners Community Kitchen, located in St. John’s Episcopal Church at 183 N. Main St. in Canandaigua.
Hosted by UR Medicine Thompson Health, the free clinic is for both the uninsured and underinsured, ages 9 and up. It will run from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The standard 2021-2022 vaccine provides protection against four flu viruses. There is also a high-dose option, for ages 65 and up, containing additional antigen designed to create a stronger immune response.
For more information on the November 18th free clinic, call 585-924-1510.
Designate a Light at Thompson in Honor or in Memory of a Loved One
This holiday season, the guild’s Tree of Lights will once again be featured prominently in front of UR Medicine Thompson Health’s skilled-nursing facility, the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center on Parrish Street in Canandaigua.
Each year, community members may sponsor lights on the tree, in memory of or in honor of loved ones. Proceeds benefit the programs and initiatives funded by the guild, which is Thompson’s auxiliary and which had to cancel many of its fundraising events this year.
Lights are a minimum donation of $5 each. Written acknowledgments are sent to those honored or to the families of those memorialized.
To sponsor a light, visit www.ThompsonHealth.com/Tree. For more information, call (585) 396-6155.
Thompson’s monthly support group is open to stroke survivors as well as their loved ones and caregivers. To sign up for the Nov. 4 meeting, email StrokeSupportGroup@urmc.rochester.edu.

Uses for Pumpkin Seeds
If you have never done it, here is how you extract the seeds from a pumpkin. Wash all the innards and remove the seeds from the stringy material. Discard the strings and dry the seeds with towels. Toss the seeds with some oil and maybe some salt. Spread them on a cookie sheet and roast at 325 degrees until they are golden brown, about 25 minutes, depending on your oven. They can be stored in a zip closure bag in the refrigerator. Read More.

Sweet and Sour Couscous
Couscous looks like a grain, but is actually a type of pasta. Originating in North Africa it is made from semolina (durum wheat) flour mixed with water. It is high in carbohydrates so is not very blood sugar friendly. It contains fewer essential nutrients and is not suggested for those with gluten sensitivity. You can buy it in a container that will last for many months or pre-packaged in boxes that come with flavor packets. Most are quick cook variety. It is easy to cook and makes a nice side dish. Sometimes you find it as tri colored, which does not affect the flavor but makes for a more colorful serving. Read More.
