Dear <<First Name>>,

I hope you are enjoying this beautiful day of warm sunshine in November! I am writing today from the patio facing due east at our apartment in Hebron, Kentucky.  The sun rises over hill beyond the valley below to shine directly into our back windows.  I have started meditating at this time in the light of the sun each day I am here! Today I am working outside to soak up every energizing ray I can!

The first phase of pre-winter has occurred with the falling back of the clocks to daylight savings time.  As the amount of daylight decreases so does our natural access to the benefits of sunlight to our bodies need and the winter blues can turn into Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).*  Personally, I don’t think I feel much of it until January, however, just like dehydration, when you feel thirsty you are already dehydrated.

First I want to acknowledge that our lifestyles directly contradict our natural circadian rhythms of sleep and wakefulness. We tend to want to “hermitize” our lifestyle and hibernate.  I start to notice that I don’t want to get up in the morning, exercise or eat healthy food.  I start to commit to social engagements and then later decide not to go or choose to stay home because of the weather.  I begin to feel lonely and less likely to reach out to a friend or invite someone to share a meal or afternoon tea.  January and February can be very dark, unproductive times for me.  While that might seem natural, we are social beings and the habits that go along with this tendency can lead to debilitating feelings of loneliness.

We all want to feel vibrant, connected and engaged but resist opportunities to do so without a healthy push from someone who cares and understands. This year I want to be pro-active and bring all of you along with me on a positive, energizing journey through the winter months. The solution to the season is to:
  • join a coaching circle that will keep you energized and accountable
  • engage in a strong program of self-care,
  • get more “fun, sweaty, activity”* (usually called exercise) and to
  • go out and socialize.

How can we do this together? I am offering small group (8 or less) coaching circles for men and women that want to proactively manage  the winter blues.  Together, we will discover habits that are associated with the season and create new habits that activate our natural strengths so you can work and play at a high level of productivity and enjoyment!  Most of all, we will have a lot of fun and build a supportive community. The program will begin November 29th and go through the end of February.  Contact me directly for more information and to register.

Each day you will wake up saying,
“It might as well be spring”!  I feel energized and excited about what the day might bring!
(Ok… a little cheesy!)

Get outside and get some rays today!

In the Spirit of Strengths!
