Hello rider of bicycles,

Its February, we know you probably aren't thinking about bikes. However, exciting things like the World Bike Forum, Winter Bike to Work Day, and the launch of our spring Earn-a-Bike sessions are all worth thinking bicycle for!

Besides, you probably should be thinking about bikes. In six short weeks you are going to be wishing you tuned yours up! Go pencil in some time to work on your bike. Then take a deep breath and remember what it feels like to ride in the sunshine. Now smile and let that feeling sink in while you read this newsletter.

World Bicycle Forum

Tune in for updates from Colombia!

Our own community bike shop is about to get some international attention. Executive Director, Tegan Moss, will be presenting about B!KE on a panel of grassroots community organizers at the World Bicycle Forum in Medellin, Colombia. The forum takes place from February 26th until March 1st and she will be posting daily about what she learns. Check our facebook page and twitter feed for updates. Check out this episode of The National for a taste of what she might learn from Medellin.

Winter Bike to Work Day

Want to ride in snow but need an extra push?

Nothing like beating Toronto for a good excuse! Register for Winter Bike to Work Day and keep Peterborough's numbers up. On Friday, get on your bike, stay loose, and enjoy the snow!

Want to build new skills? Perhaps there is a youth in your life who you want to encourage to ride bikes? Maybe someone you know can't afford to buy a bike but would love to build one? Check out our two Earn-a-Bike programs.

Youth Earn-a-Bike

Fridays 3-6 pm starting March 27th

This is an eight-week program that gives youth (aged 14-19) the opportunity to fully rebuild a bike, gaining valuable mechanical skills, and new friends as they work. Registration is now open and space is limited to 6 participants. More details can be found here.

Adult Earn-a-Bike Pilot Program

Our first orientation runs March 1st from 12 to 1:30 pm

B!KE is excited to announce the launch of our new Adult Earn-a-Bike program. This program is geared towards community members who are facing financial barriers to owning a bike, but are willing to dedicate some time and energy to refurbishing a bicycle for themselves. After attending an orientation session, participants can work on building up their own bicycle during our regular Open Shop hours. Participants will be asked to help with small volunteer tasks in the shop while they complete their build. Registration info is on our website.

Until next time...
