19th Annual
Downtown Alameda Spring Festival

Dear Members,

Our spring and summer event season is upon us and things in the district are about to get busy!

The 19th Annual Downtown Alameda Spring Festival is Mother’s Day weekend, May 11 & 12.  And boy, do we ever have a lot of new things to share with you...

We have an expanded “Alameda Alley” section on Central Avenue as it crosses Park Street (see map).  This area includes the Alameda Stage sponsored by Common Networks filled with local talent programmed by Alamedan Jim Parodi; lots more tables and chairs to encourage visitors to sit and enjoy the entertainment, food, and drink; plus room for some of our local non-profit organizations to share their messages.

We hope that you have already started prepping to take advantage of the tens of thousands of people that will visit Downtown Alameda on these two days -- from adding a festive look to your storefront to offering Mother's Day specials. The Spring Festival is just the beginning of all the seasonal events coming to the district and our island at large.

Make sure to post your social media pictures using our hashtags #alamedaspringfestival #downtownalameda so that we can share them.

If you have any questions about the event, please give the Downtown Association a call at (510) 523-1392.

Thank you and enjoy Downtown Alameda's 19th Annual Spring Festival.

Janet Magleby, Executive Director

Please Note: Park Street from Encinal Ave to Lincoln Ave, as well as parts of Central Ave adjacent to Park Street, will be CLOSED TO TRAFFIC from early morning set-up on Saturday, May 11 through evening clean-up on Sunday, May  12.

The Alameda Stage will be filled with local entertainment and announcements will be made between acts.

This information will also be promoted on our website, in social media, and in the Alameda Sun.

We hope you will take advantage of this unique opportunity to get the word out to the tens of thousands of people that will be visiting our downtown district this Mother's Day Weekend.

Just click on this google form and fill out the necessary information before our hard deadline of Friday, May 3.
Promote Your Business on the Street

The Downtown Alameda Spring Festival brings thousands of people to our downtown district, presenting an opportunity for you and your team to hand out literature and interact face-to-face with thousands of potential clients.

If you are interested in promoting your business on the street, we are currently signing up groups and individuals to volunteer in a beverage or ticket booth for a three-hour shift on Sunday.

Not only is this a fun way to participate in the street fair, but it's especially a terrific opportunity for service businesses without a storefront to get in front of a large number of potential customers and hand out promotional flyers.

New Opportunity in Local Area

kids in colorThis year, we are hosting a children’s activity table that will be free for families in the Local Area, on Central Ave near the Alameda Stage. This is an opportunity to represent downtown businesses and provide something engaging for children while parents listen to music, enjoy their beverages, and spend a few moments relaxing during the festival.

We are inviting businesses to participate by providing children’s activities during designated hours. Activities range from coloring sessions to creative art projects. We are also planning to have contests with prizes. (Businesses donating a prize will be featured at the booth and in our advertising campaigns.)

If you would like to offer an activity, donate a prize, or volunteer in the activity area, please contact Aviva at aviva@downtownalameda.com.

Sidewalk Sales Guidelines

We encourage businesses to participate in the spirit of the event by bringing things out to the street. Here are a few guidelines to help you have a successful event:
  • When setting up displays on the sidewalk, don't forget you must leave a 4' ADA walkway at all times.
  • Please be polite… don’t encroach on your neighbor’s space without asking first.
  • Merchandise should be consistent with what is being sold inside your store. Do not sublease the storefront/sidewalk space to other vendors.
  • Special permits are needed to sell food, beverages, or alcohol on the sidewalks or out the windows.
Please notify the Downtown Association office if you are planning to sell food and/or beverages in front of your business and confirm that you have acquired the proper permits. We don’t want to see your business get in trouble with the health department or with ABC. Call (510) 523-1392 or email office@downtownalameda.com.
