Inside the Booths: New Booths for 2016

We are excited to officially add three new booth options to the Fresh Check Day program!

Responding to popular demand, Rise Up will educate about the mental health effects of sexual assault and resources that can help, bring awareness to rape culture and the impact of victim blaming, and empower all students to be proactive and informed bystanders.

Boost will replace the booth formerly known as Yoga to allow for many more types of physical activity to be featured as having positive effects on overall wellness, including mental health.

Uplift will serve as an alternative to the Check In & Chill Out booth for campuses that choose not to incorporate a mental health screening into their Fresh Check Day. Uplift promotes self-care and wellness as an important component of taking care of your mental health and general well-being. Students will learn healthy ways of coping and taking care of themselves and will walk away with their own personalized "Uplift Kit" of self-care strategies that work for them!

You can read more about these new booths in the 2016 Inside the Booths Handbook, now available on with the password provided to you by your Program Coordinator.

Updates to the Division of Labor and Materials Agreement

Now that our last Fresh Check Day of 2015 has come to an end, we want to keep you up to date on some changes you can expect in 2016. It's amazing to think that just 3 years ago in April of 2012, the first Fresh Check Day pilot program was held at Eastern Connecticut State University. Since then, the program has had significant growth, impacting thousands of students and making its way to over 30 college campuses in 6 states and we are continuing to grow into a national program!

With that, we introduce the 2016 Division of Labor and Materials Agreement. Though JPF will continue to provide the same level of planning support, you should no longer expect JPF staff presence on the day of your program. Rest assured, all materials JPF promises to provide will be shipped to you in advance of Fresh Check Day. The biggest change is that we will no longer be able to provide booth banners and will require schools to provide their own, either printed using the graphics we provide or by creating your own with art supplies. All other signage that requires printing is available in 8.5X11 .pdf documents for easy use.

If you have any questions regarding the 2016 Division of Labor and Materials Agreement, please contact Program Manager, Leah Nelson at
MA Schools: Help Is Now Just a Text Away
Samaritans Adds Texting Services to Statewide Suicide Helpline

As of October 2015, Samaritans, Inc. is providing texting support via the Massachusetts Statewide Helpline 877-870-HOPE (4673). Samaritans is the first organization based in Massachusetts to implement texting as a communication method for those seeking help for issues related to suicide. Samaritans staff and volunteers will be answering texts from people of all ages dealing with suicidal ideation, feelings of isolation and issues that can appear to be overwhelming. The texting service is available daily from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. and the service is free, confidential, and anonymous. Samaritans hopes to expand their texting service hours in the coming months.
