June 28th

Hello Everyone!

Oh my gosh, is it really July already?  Happy 4th! We will be closed on Thursday the 4th but open Friday and all weekend!

I know you're wondering why this email is arriving early - it's not Sunday evening yet!  I'm going to be gone this weekend - doing the Bike MS Ride, raising money for this important cause, which holds such meaning to me personally and to so many of us.  Here's a link to my personal page, in case you'd like to read it.  Anyway - We thought we'd start the N Sale Early!  So - for two glorious days, Saturday and Sunday (June 29th and 30th), the M Sale and N Sale will both be in effect!

This year's Letter N Sale may be one of our best sales EVER - here's why:

Noro Yarn - all of it - is 20% OFF!  You'll find some orphans and close outs that are already on sale, and those are an additional 20% off! You'll find it all HERE

We've worked our way up to the regular sized bolts of fabric in the store, or "Normal Sized Bolts" as we call them.  During our Letter N Sale, fabric on these bolts is 20% off - and new with this year's sale - take the end of bolt and it's 25% off! This includes all fabric - not just the "revived" bolts (that we have so many of right now, by the way 😉)  That means batiks, solids, blenders....the works!

One note:  We are expecting that fabulous RIDE ON cycling theme collection from Banyan Batiks any time now - and although it will not be part of the N Sale, you won't want to miss it! We are so excited for this ... and we know you are too, so keep an eye on Facebook and Instagram and we'll let you know when it arrives.
Remember - Yarn Lovers - if you're local - for best selection - shop soon online and choose in store pickup as your shipping method. We'll have your order ready and waiting for you.  Let us know if you'd like your yarn wound - and we'll do that too! :-)

Not Local? All online orders over $50 ship FREE!

What's on our Needles?

This will probably be my last post about the Whiskyfied KAL.  I want everyone to know how great of a time Rachael and I have had with you during this experience! We have loved seeing everyone’s projects, no matter where you are in the process (this is still true!), and we really loved having this project in common with all of you! Speaking as part of the crew of Wooden Spools, we are all so thrilled to have each and every one of you as part of our community!

One last note on the KAL: please post a photo of your finished Whiskyfied in the finished object thread of our Wooden Spools Ravelry group. This will get you entered in the drawing for a prize to be won at our KAL open house on July 12, 4-7pm. Come join us and meet the community you’ve been knitting with!

August 17th thru 25th
New this year for Yarn Along the Rockies, The Fourteener Shawl! The Fourteener is a pre-crawl pattern available NOW at all participating Yarn Along the Rockies crawl shops! Just purchase your yarn at one of the shops and the pattern is free! Wear your finished shawl during the crawl to show it off and tag it with #fourteenershawl. We can't wait to see what colors you choose!
It uses 400 yards each of a fingering weight and mohair.
Our Kindred Spirit Braids from Alpaca Yarn Company are PERFECT ;-)
Ours is done! Come in and check it really is so light and airy and soft - and since we used brushed alpaca as the "mohair" component of it - it is extra soft and silky... Some of us are sensitive to mohair and really this yarn is so different!

Pre Yarn Crawl Crochet pattern coming soon!

Week of June 30, 2019 – 4th of July Quilts

It’s almost the 4th of July.  Time to get out those patriotic red, white and blue quilts and put them on display in your home!  I pulled all of mine out several weeks ago.  I enjoy having them on the walls and tables and beds for the entire summer.

The first quilt I’m sharing (15” x 17”) is a modified 2” Birds in the Air block.  Done in red, cream and blue it creates a sweet little quilt to put on a doll bed or a tabletop.  I just had to make a new doll quilt for this season.  I have so many doll beds it is hard to keep up with a seasonal quilt for each of them four times a year.

This star wall-hanging or table runner (14.5” x 27”) is a design I made for my book I wrote with Carol Ann Waugh called First Ladies of America Quilt.  This block represents Lucretia Garfield.  Her husband was president in 1881 and Lucretia had been the editor of a school magazine called The Eclectic Star.  Using three blocks together it makes a fun piece for the wall.

If you are looking for a quick and easy project to make before the 4th of July, why not try a flag?  The Doll Quilt Divas group that I belong to decided we would each make 6 flags and then exchange them so we will end up with 6 different blocks to combine into a quilt.  The blue square is cut out as a 7.5” square and each red and white strip is 1.5” wide.  The top 7 strips are cut at 11.5” or a little longer – then you can trim them after it is all put together.  The bottom 6 strips are 18.5” (or longer).  When it is all put together it makes a finished 18” x 13” block.  If you only want to make one, this would be a cute placemat or small wall hanging.

The last quilt I want to share is one that my mom made many years ago - 1981.  We were helping to clean out an area of the church basement and in the back of a closet we found a bag full of little fabric squares.
No one knew anything about them but rather than throw them out my mom took them home and made this small Trip Around the World quilt (34” x 42”).  I love to drape it on my room divider between the kitchen and family room in the summer.  It looks patriotic and it reminds me of my precious mother who loved quilts and quilting.

Just for You - Quilt Quote: “Quilting with a Friend will keep you in stitches”
