What's on our Needles?
by Amy & Rachael

K is for Knitalong!  Are you knitting  "Whiskyfied" by Melanie Berg along with us? It's not too late to join in - and you could even catch up really easily at this stage! (not that it's a race)  It's been so exciting to see everyone's progress so far, and so many variations in yarns! Hope everyone is learning something new (like that awesome stretchy upper edge, for example)!  The schedule for the KAL is posted in our group. We'll buy you the pattern when you buy yarn for the KAL!

We have a knit-a-long community gathering from 5 to 7 pm on Tuesdays.  You can come and ask questions of Rachael or Amy, show off your KAL WIP, and enjoy the spirit of knitting as a community!  OR, if you’re more of a virtual joiner (or you don’t live in town), join us on our Ravelry group page to share questions, comments, progress, yarn choices, and WIP photos and stories. Here's a link to join our Wooden Spools Ravelry Group. Make sure to click the button to join our group and then start posting in the KAL Chatter and WIP thread (save the finished object KAL thread for when you are all done with your KAL!).

At the end of the KAL, we will have a celebratory open house!! Join us to show off your newly completed “Whiskyfied” shawl and meet and greet your new knitting friends. This will be Friday, July 12 from 4pm to 7pm. Drop in and have some refreshments and show off your great project!
We REALLY LOVE seeing all of the gorgeous projects you are creating!! Join us and knit ALONG instead of knitting ALONE! Here are pics of ours so far:

Amy is using Queensland Oxley

Rachael is using Mirasol Nuna

Vicki is using HiKoo Rylie

Week of May 19, 2019 – Dog Quilts

Do you have a dog?  Does your dog have a special quilt that you have made him/her?  I guess I can’t resist an excuse to make another little quilt, so I like dog quilts.  When I went to pull out my quilts to photograph, I realized that in my divorce I let my ex-husband keep two of the quilts that I made for our dog Enzo (named after Enzo Ferrari).  We only had him 12 years, but he was a very special Shih-Tzu.

The beauty of making a dog quilt is that you can let the fabric do the work for you.  It can be a simple dog quilt like this pink one with 9-patch blocks (19.5” x 25”).  The white fabric with gray paw prints says it all “This is for a special dog”.  I made this quilt recently for a friend who has a toy terrier who only weighs 3.5 pounds at age 9 months!  I thought she needed her own special quilt so I will give it to her soon.

Ok back to my former dog Enzo (he’s been gone for almost 4 years now and I still miss him).  I thought he deserved a special quilt so the next one you see was for him.  It was a little larger (30” x 33”) so I could wrap him up while he sat on my lap.  The center section was made from 3.5” squares.  Because we took him to work every day at our car dealership it has black and white racing fabric with cartoon cars from the movie Cars.  Then it is surrounded by a big border of dog bones (see closeup) for him to enjoy.  I just love it when the fabric tells the story and I don’t have to make an intricate block to convey my feelings.

If you are a dog lover maybe it is time for you to make a special quilt with fabric that speaks “Dog”.  If you have already made one, I would love to see a picture – you can send it to my email below.

Just for You - Quilt Quote: “Once you have had a wonderful dog, a life without one, is a life diminished.”   And  “Quilt ‘til you wilt!”
