April 7th

Hello Everyone!

Happy Spring!  Happy Passover! Happy Easter! There's a whole lot of Happy going on to coincide with our Letter H Sale!

"H" even has us thinking about holidays already - I know, it's early - but is it ever too soon to prepare? Just the other day a customer shared that she was shopping for fabric & zippers to make Sew Together Bags for Christmas gifts! Sometimes that preparation is just getting a pattern and yarn or fabric set aside to work on as the holidays get closer!  Or, if you are like me, it could mean just putting that fabric or yarn in a gift bag with an "I OWE YOU a sweater, quilt etc."  and giving that as a gift! (true story)

Our Letter H Sale will be on all holiday fabric, patterns, books & kits*.
20% OFF*

Bonus: Homespun fabric is included also!

For Yarn Lovers - we carry 7 different yarns that begin with the letter  "H", and they are all 20% off during this sale*

Click the link below to browse and shop the webstore. Use the code "HAPPY20" to save 20% on the entire H collection!

Knitalong!

In the spirit of “knitting along” instead of “knitting alone,” we’ve been thinking about starting something new for us.  We are doing a storewide KNITALONG! We are still working out some details, but there will be lots of fun stuff for you, our amazing customers! A few things we know so far: the pattern will be “Whiskyfied” by Melanie Berg. “Whiskyfied” is a beautiful shawl/scarf with great texture that I’m basically desperate to wear right this very minute! Special deal for the KAL: When you buy the yarn for this pattern, we’ll buy you the pattern! As far as yarn choices, the pattern calls for a sport weight yarn.  Either a fingering weight or a DK weight would also work.  We think Queensland Oxley would be a luscious yarn to use.  It is a merino and yak fiber blend, and it is ridiculously soft.  AND we got a deal when we purchased it and we are passing the deal on to you, so skeins are only $19.99 (regularly $29.99). Another great option would be Mirasol Nuna.  This yarn is 40% extra-fine merino wool, 40% silk, and 20% bamboo. It has an amazing drape and a beautiful sheen that will show the texture of “Whiskyfied” perfectly! This knitalong will start May 6 (with our J sale!) and will continue for 8 weeks.

Go on to our Instagram @WoodenSpoolsDenver or Facebook pages and comment on our KAL post to let us know how much you love this pattern and how excited you are for the KAL! Use #WoodenSpoolsKAL2019 to post photos and chat about this fun experience.  I will be adding information and chatting more about our KAL in a discussion thread on our Ravelry group page.  Check it out!

Week of April 7, 2019 – Bear’s Paw Quilts

My favorite quilt block is the Bear’s Paw.  The first quilt I am sharing may just be my favorite miniature quilt in my collection.  I purchased it from eBay and each little HST is
pieced (with 2-3 stitches).  It is NOT appliqued or a preprinted piece.  It measures just 7.25” x 7.25”.  Can you imagine making this?!  It also has perfectly mitered corners where the pieced stripes come together.  I love the cutouts on the bottom corners, so it fits perfectly over a 4-poster mini doll bed.  It was made in 1989 by Maggi-Made Imaginations.

The next one is slightly larger (8.5” x 11”) and it features each individual Bear Paw surrounded by a little border and then set together with plain blocks.  There is no batting or quilting and the front and back are combined with a knife edge binding rather than traditional.  I am not that proficient at dating fabrics, but I would guess this one is over 100 years old based on the designs and feel of the fabrics.  It is another favorite.

The third quilt (13.5” x 13.75”) is also from eBay.
Each little Bear Paw HST is only .5” and the little 9-patches in each corner of the sashing are only 1” so it contains a lot of tiny piecing.   continue reading
