SERVICE DAY

at Wooden Spools
Thursday, February 28th
Have your machine serviced while you shop!

In response to your many requests - Kurt Eanes, certified Bernina technician, will be offering his Service Day for Bernina sewing machines at Wooden Spools! He will be in the store on Feb. 28th.

Kurt has 28 years of experience working solely on Bernina Products.  For this service day we are scheduling basic service at one hour intervals.  Cost is $125 and a 50% deposit is required to secure your time slot.  So sign up now, as the schedule will fill quickly!

Bring your machine, power cord, foot control, bobbin case and regular stitch plate (not your straight stitch plate) and your piecing foot i.e. #37, #57 if you use one of those and your #1 foot.  Unfortunately due to time constraints he can not work on the new generation 830/880 or the larger 700 series machines, they take way more than the allotted hour.    If more work than a standard service is needed he will try to get it done for you in store for a slight additional charge.  If you desire you can drop your machine off the previous day if you can't make your appointed time. He does request that you are prompt to your time slot, otherwise the next person's machine will be started late and she just may be your best friend.  We are looking forward to providing our customers this new service.

Week of January 27, 2019 – Red Hat Club

If you are in your 60s or older, I am sure you remember turning 50 and the Red Hat Clubs were very popular.  There were even fabrics made to celebrate in red and purple.  Sandy Gervais made adorable cartoon fabrics and the ladies at Great American Fabrics made some others that coordinated beautifully.  I made myself a top (in my UFO pile – for this year) and so when my niece Janet approached the 50-year mark I decided to find some fabrics and make her one too.  Fortunately, I had some fabrics left over, found some at Wooden Spools and on E-Bay.

We share the same birthdate – just 15 years apart.  She lives in Wichita and so does my brother and his wife, so my sister and I did a road trip last weekend to Kansas and I gave her the new quilt.  I hoped it wouldn’t offend her and it didn’t, she loved it.  It is good to celebrate mile markers in our lives and what better way than with a quilt.

I told you I have 6 UFOs on my New Year’s resolution list and I have finished the first one!  Of course, I chose a doll quilt because it was small and easy to finish.
This was supposed to be for my granddaughter Freya for Christmas.  It is a Spinning Pinwheels quilt (18.75” x 22”) and the back has Smurfette fabric.  I think now she will get it for Valentine’s Day instead of Christmas.  It even has a heart shaped label.

I loved it so much that it inspired me to create a pink, red and white version which I made into a pattern... continue reading
