Who’s ready for a knit-a-long?? We are! We are!! Here are the details for you.
First, we want to build some community during this knit-a-long.  So, we are having a set time every week that you can come and ask questions of Rachael or myself, show off your KAL WIP, and enjoy the spirit of knitting as a community! Every Tuesday from 5pm to 7pm, come visit us! OR, if you’re more of a virtual joiner (or you don’t live in town), join us on our Ravelry group page to share questions, comments, progress, yarn choices, and WIP photos and stories. To join our Ravelry group, choose “Groups” from the top Ravelry bar, and search for Wooden Spools.  Make sure to click the button to join our group and then start posting in the KAL Chatter and WIP thread (save the finished object KAL thread for when you are all done with your KAL!).
Next, this knit-a-long will have 8 sections and will start Monday, May 6.  We’ll be posting all information for the breakdown of the KAL in our Ravelry group, so make sure you join us there. At the end of the KAL, we will have a celebratory open house!! Join us to show off your newly completed “Whiskyfied” shawl and meet and greet your new knitting friends. This will be Friday, July 12 from 4pm to 7pm. Drop in and have some refreshments and show off your great project!
Finally, when you are all finished with your project, post a completed photo in the KAL Finished Object thread of our Ravelry group.  Only post a photo (no chatter, please) and we will randomly draw one person to win a great prize!  And don’t worry, there’s no need to finish early or first! We will draw the name July 12.  As long as you have your project done by then, you’ll be in the drawing!
We CAN’T WAIT to see all of the lovely projects you will be creating!! Join us and knit ALONG instead of knitting ALONE!

Week of April 21, 2019 – Appliqué

Recently I have been doing more appliqué.
I have done a few pieces by hand but, realizing that I am not very talented in this area, I have been enjoying machine appliqué.  It goes so fast when you fuse one fabric to another and then just stitch around it to secure the two fabrics together.

By sharing a few photos, I hope to inspire you to either pick up an old project and finish it, or if you have never appliquéd before – give it a try!

This pattern is called “Noah and Matilda” and can be found online.  It was created by Dawn Cook-Ronnigen (Collector with a Needle) who replicated the blocks from an antique
quilt that she owns.  It dates back to the mid-1800s.  Of course, the original was done on muslin, but I thought I wanted to try it on a black background just to be different, and I love it.

Each block finishes at 8” and I think I may put a small black sashing in between them so it will set off each block a little more.

When the top is complete, I will post another picture for you. My quilt will have 16...    continue reading
