MESSAGE FROM THE CEO

Dear School Leaders, I wanted to share that growth for everyone is difficult, but it can be even more challenging for school leaders because you may have already surpassed more than you ever thought possible. (I know, I have!) So it is hard to know what to work on. Here are a few ideas:
  • Take time to realize how far you have come.
  • Create Your Definition of Work-Life Balance
  • Prioritize Time for Yourself
I want to highlight Dr. George Fitch. He was one of the many leaders of my former school, LCS. He would use two quotes to inspire me to grow, which are the following: "What brought you here will not take you to the next level." Also, "Allow your ceiling to become your floor." His words planted a seed and allowed me to grow to the next level.
I plant seeds with others by sharing that our capacity can be increased if we focus on gaining support, acquiring new tools, and expanding are formal and informal knowledge.
I want to thank you for everything you do at our schools. You have built the most beautiful schools for children. Your work ethic and commitment to your staff are genuinely inspiring. In addition, you are anchoring your communities through your servant leadership. Please remember we are here for you!
Dr. Anne Clark

A NOTE FROM NINA

Back-to-school season is right around the corner. As a kid, it was one of my favorite times of the year—from buying school supplies and clothes to the intrigue of meeting new teachers and friends. This year is particularly exciting as my daughter will start her senior year of high school.

I know school leaders and teachers share my excitement as they head back to classrooms with fresh energy and renewed optimism for the year ahead. Some will be launching brand new or expanded schools. We’d love to feature new schools serving communities across America. Please let us know of any new charter schools opening in your area!

We’re also continuing to advocate for charter schools in Congress and looking ahead to the midterm elections. Education will be a hot topic this fall and the charter school movement needs to make sure policymakers at all levels know how vital high-quality public school choices are to our families. You can start making your voice heard now by contacting your U.S. Senators while they’re finalizing next year’s budget. The Charter Schools Program (CSP) hasn’t had a funding increase in a few years—and some still want to cut it. That’s simply unacceptable. We’re pressing for $500 million of CSP funding to meet students' needs. Please contact your senators today!

The U.S. Department of Education announced new school climate and student discipline resources. These include tools and resources to support students living with disabilities and their mental health needs, help schools comply with federal laws, and promote safe and welcoming schools. Resources are for administrators, educators, students, and parents to meet students' social, emotional, and behavioral needs and assist schools in understanding federal laws that prohibit discrimination.

Child Nutrition Policy Briefing

Ed Trust and First Focus on Children are hosting a 101 Briefing on Child Nutrition Policy on Tuesday, July 26, at 10:30 a.m. ET. This will be an opportunity to discuss the impacts of hunger and food insecurity on children and opportunities for federal engagement to address these disparities.
