Caramel Chocolate Chip Cookie Update

Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa WILL NOT be receiving more in-person inventory of the new Caramel Chocolate Chip (CCC) cookies during the 2019 GSGI Cookie Program. The only way that customers or girls selling will be able to get additional stock of Caramel Chocolate Chip Cookies is through online orders for direct shipping from ABC Bakers' warehouse. We sent a Special Edition Shout Out earlier this afternoon alerting everyone that online orders had been turned back on by ABC Bakers.

We will still take exchanges from troops of CCCs at cookie cupboards through February 22, so any cookies exchanged will be available first-come, first-served – but we do not anticipate many returns!

What can you do to order CCCs?

1. If you want to place a direct ship order to fulfill your troop or customer’s needs, you will be responsible for paying for shipping, at the half-off rate of $5.75 for 5-12 packages. You will not be able to transfer those orders in Smart Cookies – the sale will be credited to the girl whose order link the order is placed under.
2. If your customers would like to order CCCs, make sure they have your Girl Scout’s order link and are ready when the CCCs are back in stock – we truly don’t know how long the stock will last! It could be four hours, four days, four weeks – this cookie will be available for all councils in cookie season.

A quick note if you’re disappointed about the inventory – we hear you! When we learned that a new, delicious, caramel-chocolate chip gluten-free Girl Scout Cookie was coming this year, we believed were ready for it! We ordered two-and-a-half times more than we had ordered of the previous GF cookie. We put in on the order card, and planned to stock it in the cookie cupboards. We were not going to let you all down! And then…this cookie took Iowans (and the entire country) by storm, and people can’t get enough!

Our sincere apologies to everyone impacted by the great CCC shortage of 2019! We are loving all the enthusiasm for this cookie, and we hope that all the CCC buzz will help your girls sell even more of the other 8 delicious varieties to meet their goals!

Exchanges: A Win for Everyone!

Remember, you can exchange cookies at the cupboards throughout the entire Cookie Program, so you aren't stuck with cookie varieties that just aren’t selling for you! The one exception to this is the Caramel Chocolate Chip, which must be exchanged at a cupboard before February 22. To ensure that we have the cookies you really need, we suggest putting in a Planned Order for them for the day you plan to come to exchange.

Please note: You cannot bring back more cookies than you are picking up in your Planned Order. Once the exchange has occurred, we will take care of the Transfers in Smart Cookies for you. For more information on our exchange policy, check out page 6 of the Cookie Program Kit.

Exchanging with other troops on Facebook:
If your troop is looking for certain cookie varieties, or has some extras to trade, check out the Official Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa Leaders Group! We've created a pinned post that will live at the top of the group's feed for the rest of the program, where you can look through comments and post what you're looking for! (Be sure to include your town/region.)

Special Experience Rewards

In addition to the individual rewards that Girl Scouts earn throughout the Cookie Program, there are also experiences that girls can earn together as a troop! We've heard some volunteers asking about the dates and locations for these special events, so we wanted to share this information with plenty of time for planning!
  • Admission to the 2019 Gimme S'more Mud Run (troop per-girl-average of 250+ packages in sales)
    • Date: September 21, 2019
    • Location: Camp Sacajawea, Boone
  • Trampoline or Water Park Adventure (troop per-girl-average of 400+ packages in sales)
    • Date: July 13, 2019

  • Troop Overnight at Camp (troop total of 5000+ packages in sales)
    • Dates (troop will register for one overnight in these ranges):
      • Camp Tanglefoot: June 25-27, or Aug 11-12
      • Camp Sacajawea: June 28-July 2
    • Overnights are possible at our other camps and outside of the dates listed above; however, staff-led programming is not guaranteed.
Note: the special experiences rewards cannot be transferred for your troop or girl to use on a different date. You can find more information on these rewards - and others - on the Troop Rewards Panel on The Bridge!

Preparing for the First Auto-Withdrawal

On February 22, you will receive an email with your troop’s total due for the first auto-withdrawal, which will take place on March 1. On March 1, the council will withdraw $1 per package ($1.25 per package of CCCs) your troop receives through February 15, excluding packages paid by credit card through Smart Cookies. Direct ship sales are also excluded, as those cookies are never received into the troop inventory; the troop and the girl are credited at the end of the sale

If you do not receive the auto-withdrawal email by 8:00 a.m. on February 23, contact info@gsiowa.org with the subject line “Missing Auto-Withdrawal Email” for quicker processing.

If you need to make adjustments to your troop's auto-withdrawal total, please fill out a Payment Adjustment Form  by 5p.m. February 26. Any forms received after this will not be processed in time to change the withdrawal amount.

Cookie Program Finances

As the girls receive cookies and begin to collect money for them, we want to make sure you have the tools you need to keep track of your troop inventory, booth sales, and the money coming in from families. Check out the Tracking Finances - Smart Cookies Guide to help you stay organized in monitoring transactions in Smart Cookies, making Cookie Program wrap-up a breeze! We'll also be sharing some great leader-created resources on The Bridge in the coming week, so be sure to check back in next week's Shout Out.

Gift Box Update

As a reminder from last Friday's Special Edition Shout Out - gift boxes are back in stock for Smart Cookies Direct Ship!

With this online-only option, customers can order a keepsake gift box ($4) filled with any variety of 5 packages to celebrate special occasions with family and friends. They can even add a personal touch by including a custom message on a card.

The gift box costs $4, in addition to the cost of the cookies and the $5.75 cost of shipping.

Having trouble logging in? Parents/guardians should have received a registration email to set up their Girl Scout's Smart Cookies online store, sent from noreply@abcsmartcookies.com.

If a family didn’t receive it, ask them to add noreply@abcsmartcookies.com as a contact in their email account address book. Once this is added, please have them email us at info@gsiowa.org so we can have that registration email re-sent (this may take up to two business days).
