Program Extension Announcement

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT! Based on feedback from volunteers and the record-breaking snowfall and polar temps across the state, we will be extending the 2019 Cookie Program by one week, making the last day for selling cookies March 24!

What does this mean for cookie cupboards?
Cookie Cupboards will be open the week of March 18; specific hours will be posted once we’ve confirmed availability for each cupboard. The last date to place a Planned Order in Smart Cookies is now Sunday, March 17. Cupboards will NOT be open for returns on Monday, March 18, as previously listed. Instead, cupboard returns will be available on Monday, March 25, as well as during open cupboard hours the week of March 18 – specific hours and locations to be posted.

How will this impact ordering cookies?
Risk Free Ordering – the last two weeks of Cookie Cupboards will be risk-free. This means that planned orders that are picked up the week of March 11 and the week of March 18 are considered “Cookie Checkout,” and you will be able to return up to what you picked up the last two weeks, by March 25. Note: The cookie checkout period may have limited varieties available – once a variety is out, we will not be able to order more, but you can connect with other troops to trade, or direct customers to order online.

Are booth sales extended as well?
Yes! Also, if you had to cancel a council-secured booth due to snow on Sunday, February 17, we are looking at make-up booths at the same locations on Sunday, March 24. If available, you will have first dibs on these booths before they are released for other troops.

What about online sales?
Online sales are also extended, so customers can order online through Sunday, March 24.

What about reward orders and the final auto-withdrawal?
With the program extension, reward orders will be due in Smart Cookies on Sunday, March 31 (previously Monday, March 25). The final auto-withdrawal will be moved back to Tuesday, April 9 (previously Tuesday, April 2). We are working hard with our partner ABC Bakers to ensure that there is no delay in rewards due to the program extension!

But that’s Spring Break and we want to be done on the original dates!
No problem! As the Troop Product Manger you can decide the best end-date for your troop this year. For those who are interested, spring break is a great time for girls to get creative about all new places they can take their cookie program during the day! And, the extended online sale may also help girls make a final push to reach their goals! (Don’t forget that GSGI covers 70 counties, so it may not be Spring Break for all girls!)

GSGI Leaders Group on Facebook, where we polled volunteers and had more than 300 responses in favor of extending the program.

Express Ordering Has Ended - Submit Your Planned Orders by Sunday

The Express Ordering period for Super Cupboards has ended. This means that if you would like to pick-up from a Super Cupboard next week, you must place your Planned Order in Smart Cookies this Sunday, February 24, by 11:59 p.m. Plan ahead for any booths you have scheduled the weekend of March 2!

Super Cupboard hours also change next week! Super Cupboards are open for order pick-up on Thursdays and Fridays only through March 16. Be sure to check the Cookie Cupboard Listing for the days/hours of the cupboards near you. Hours for the final extended week of the program will be posted asap!

The Notorious CCC!

Surprise! We have a special patch coming your way, that will acknowledge and celebrate Girl Scouts’ hard work and all the buzz of the new cookie, the Caramel Chocolate Chip (CCC)!

While supply and demand may have played a role for some girls in earning the Gluten Free Patch, we’ll be sending a custom Notorious CCC patch to every troop who participates in the 2019 Cookie Program to recognize the great Caramel Chocolate Chip shortage of 2019 and all of our go-getter cookie sellers out there!

Each girl who participates in the 2019 Cookie Program will receive a patch, shipped to Troop Product Managers this spring. Two additional patches will be sent to each troop at no cost to acknowledge the patience and hard work of troop volunteers! Additional Notorious CCC patches will also be available for purchase in our council shops this spring, while supplies last!

Note: the requirements for the Gluten Free patch listed on the Rewards Panel have not changed; girls will receive that patch for selling 6 or more packages of the Caramel Chocolate Chip cookies (in-person OR online). CCCs are still in-stock for online orders as of this post!

We’ve also put together this handy guide to help your Girl Scouts have conversations with their customers about the CCC.

A reminder that the deadline to exchange Caramel Chocolate Chip cookies at cookie cupboards is Friday, February 22, so you will not be able to exchange or return these cookies during the “Cookie Checkout” weeks. If you have CCC inventory you will not need, please swap with other leaders who are looking for them!

Direct Ship Patch Mailing

Direct ship online sales are booming, and we are excited to start sending out the patches girls earn for 1+ and 3+ Direct Ship orders! Patch mailings for girls who have earned these rewards will begin next week, and will be mailed directly to girls, through the end of the program.

If girls haven’t set up their online account yet, it’s not too late! Girls can continue to send e-cards and share their direct link through the extended program end date of March 24. Customers are loving the half-off shipping of $5.75 for 5-12 packages!

Preparing for the First Auto-Withdrawal

On February 22, you will receive an email with your troop’s total due for the first auto-withdrawal, which will take place on March 1. On March 1, the council will withdraw $1 per package ($1.25 per package of CCCs) your troop receives through February 15, excluding packages paid by credit card through Smart Cookies. Direct ship sales are also excluded, as those cookies are never received into the troop inventory; the troop and the girl are credited at the end of the sale

If you do not receive the auto-withdrawal email by 8:00 a.m. on February 23, contact info@gsiowa.org with the subject line “Missing Auto-Withdrawal Email” for quicker processing.

If you need to make adjustments to your troop's auto-withdrawal total, please fill out a Payment Adjustment Form  by 5p.m. February 26. Any forms received after this will not be processed in time to change the withdrawal amount.
