What's New and Soon to Arrive in NoMa

So many great retail options have recently opened or are poised to open in and around NoMa — it's an exciting time to live and work here!

Down at Union Station, Blue Bottle Coffee, Magnolia Bakery, and Neapolitan Express (pizza) are ready for your orders; used bookstore Carpe Librum has rows and rows of reading options; while Legal Sea Bar and Aloha Poke will satisfy seafood lovers later this summer. Up in the Union Market area, Politics & Prose will soon have its third bookstore; St. Anselm, a Stephen Starr steakhouse, is taking shape; and Japanese restaurant O-ku will be serving sushi before summer's over.

And along or near the First Street corridor, Lily and the Cactus, from the folks behind Arlington's Kora restaurant, is now cooking Southwestern-inspired breakfasts, lunches, and dinners on the second floor of the Hilton Garden Inn (1225 First St. NE); Buredo (111 K St. NE) will be offering healthy, delicious lunches in just a few weeks; The Eleanor (100 Florida Ave. NE) is preparing to accept those quarters you’ve been hoarding for Skee-Ball and other games while enjoying great brews and fare; master of meaty sandwiches The Carving Room will soon start construction on its second location (130 M St. NE); and a Streets Market and Café is slated for the ground floor of the AVA NoMa apartment building (51 M St. NE) this fall.

Finally, we're looking forward to enjoying a cold craft beer from Red Bear Brewing, the District's first 100% gay-owned brewery, which just received its building permit for its home at Uline Arena (1140 3rd St. NE) last week!

Approval Process Started for The Boring Co.'s D.C.-Baltimore Loop

Back in February we learned that Elon Musk was bringing his big ideas to NoMa, and things are continuing to move along. On May 29, the Federal Highway Administration and the Federal Railroad Administration announced they are preparing an Environmental Assessment for The Boring Company’s proposed Loop. The company's website says: "The proposed twin tunnels would run in parallel for approximately 35 miles from downtown D.C. to downtown Baltimore, beneath New York Avenue and then the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. This would serve as the central artery for a potential future transportation network which would hopefully be extended to New York." From the District to Baltimore in 15 minutes? We're on board with that.
