A Pop-Up Park Designed by You

Park(ing) Day 2018 is right around the corner. What is it, you ask? It's the day every September when people turn spaces meant for cars (curbside parking spots) into spaces meant for people. We want you to come up with a design that brings the community together in a unique way. (Design specifications may be found in the event guidelines.) E-mail your best idea to NoMa BID Marketing and Events Manager Lia Seremetis by COB Monday, August 6, and we'll pick a few favorites, each of which will receive a $500 stipend to make the vision a reality on September 21!

Next NoMa Parks Foundation
Community Meeting: August 28

The NoMa Parks Foundation invites community members and park enthusiasts to the eighth NoMa Parks Community Conversation. At this Community Conversation we will discuss the construction of "NoMa Green" results of the "NoMa Green" naming vote, upcoming park openings, and other updates! Whether you've followed the creation and progress of the NoMa Parks Foundation, the development of the underpass projects and Swampoodle Park at 3rd and L streets, attended a previous Community Conversation, or are just learning about the NoMa parks initiative for the first time, there will be information and conversation for everyone.

Join us on August 28 at the Hilton Garden Inn (1225 First St. NE) for the conversation, starting at 6:30 p.m. We'll be serving a light dinner beginning at 6:00 p.m. RSVP here.

Help Us Improve North Capitol Street

The NoMa BID is working with community members, RK&K Engineering, and Nspiregreen to identify priority projects on North Capitol Street between R Street and Massachusetts Avenue. Please share your observations of conditions on North Capitol to assist our study of this historic District corridor. The project team is examining safety, appearance, landscape, and green infrastructure in the hopes of improving conditions for pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers. Your comments will help create a list of priority projects to make North Capitol Street better for everyone. Let us know your thoughts at this online map. (FYI, the image above is of North Capitol seen from above New York Avenue, circa 1965.)

Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So-La-
Please-Don’t-Rain-Tonight

We know, we know … Mother Nature hasn't been very NoMa Summer Screen-friendly this year, but we're crossing our fingers, toes — pretty much all crossable extremities — in hopes of good weather for tonight's screening of Pitch Perfect on The Lot at 1st and Pierce (1150 First St. NE). And showing on August 8: Moana!

Once the season concludes on August 29, we'll determine which film will show on our September 5 rain date. And we’re working on scheduling a second rain date, too, which we hope to announce soon.

WHAT DID THE "NOMA GREEN" AREA LOOK LIKE IN 1923?
