Climbing wall at REI's Flagship store in Seattle
Get ready for adventures, NoMa! REI announced it will open a flagship store in Uline Arena in 2016. Uline Arena is famous for being the venue of the first Beatles concert in North America and President Eisenhower’s inaugural ball. Everyone from Bob Dylan to the Rolling Stones to the Temptations performed at Uline Arena in its heyday.
How is a flagship store different from other REI store locations? REI flagships are designed and programmed to be an immersive experience, with community space, outdoorsy educational classes, and partnerships with local non-profits. This flagship in NoMa will be REI’s fifth in the United States, and its first retail location in DC proper.
Douglas Development, who owns the historic Uline Arena, started construction two months ago. Along with REI on the first floor, there will be 157,000 SF of commercial office space and 22,708 SF of additional retail space. Welcome to the neighborhood, REI, we can’t wait to see what adventures you bring to NoMa!
