NoMa Summer Screen Continues!

The NoMa Summer Screen season is going strong! We've had an awesome time so far this season, and we're ready for more with tomorrow's screening of Life of Pi. Head on over to NoMa Junction @ Storey Park (1005 First Street NE) tomorrow, July 13, at sunset for some action packed fun! The NoMa BID and 2016 NoMa Summer Screen sponsor, REI, invite you to enjoy movie adventures every Wednesday night from June 1 - August 24. 

All movies, including Family Film Nights, will be shown at NoMa Junction @ Storey Park. Films start at sunset but arrive early to enjoy food trucks, music, games and giveaways. All NoMa BID events are free and open to the public.

July's Family Film Night: Up

Bring the kiddos out for Family Film Night the third Tuesday of each month. On July 19, we'll be showing Up! Gear up with Russle in an adventure that is out of this world.

We've changed location this year, so don't forget that all movies, including Family Film Nights, will be shown at NoMa Junction @ Storey Park. Films start at sunset but arrive early to enjoy food trucks, music, games and giveaways. All NoMa BID events are free and open to the public.

DC Free Weekend!

Bring your water bottle and snacks, but leave the cash at home— your DC Free Weekend activities are on REI! 

As Congress heads out for recess, REI will kick it off with a free weekend of adventures on July 16 and 17, including:

  • Thousands of free Capital Bikeshare rentals across the Greater D.C. area
  • Free kayak and standup paddleboard rentals on the Potomac
  • Free entry to C&O Canal at Great Falls Tavern, MD, one of the most iconic national historic parks, with 184.5 miles of hiking and biking trails.

In one of the most heated political races in recent history, REI is marking the opening of its D.C. Flagship store this fall with the United Outside campaign. DC Free Weekend is a part of the 100 days of outdoor recess dedicated to the belief that in the outdoors we can all find common ground. NoMa Parks Kaboom! Finalist!

We are excited to announce that the NoMa Parks Foundation has been named a finalist in the KaBOOM! Play Everywhere Challenge! The Play Everywhere Challenge is a $1 million national competition that will award outside-the-box ideas to make play easy, available, and fun for kids and families in cities across the U.S. The Challenge is hosted by KaBOOM!, a national non-profit dedicated to bringing balanced and active play into the daily lives of all children, particularly those growing up in poverty in America.

The NoMa Parks Foundation was selected as a finalist out of a pool of more than 1,000 applications nationwide. Winners will be announced in early fall, 2016. To learn more about the NoMa Parks Foundation's entry, click here, and to help shape the design, visit

Wunder Garten Sneak Preview!

After much anticipation, Wunder Garten will be open this weekend July 15-17 for a neighborhood sneak preview! Come drink great beers, enjoy the weather and experience Wunder Garten before they fully open for the season. They will be open from 4 p.m. - 10 p.m. all weekend long.

Don't Miss: Mussel Throw Down 2016

Belgian Restaurant Week, in partnership with Stella Artois, will host the Mussel Throw Down
on Saturday, July 16 at Storey Park. The best chefs in Washington will attempt to mussel their way to the top to see who makes the best moules! They’ll whip up their hottest mussel recipes for the crowd and judges alike as everyone sips on the classic and refreshing Belgium brew from Stella Artois. Attendees will also enjoy classic Belgium-inspired snacks, including frites and waffles. The first 150 attendees will receive a signature Stella Artois Chalice specially engraved with your name. Guests can also participate in a day-long raffle contest with prizes including a complimentary roundtrip ticket to Belgium, courtesy of Brussels Airlines. Tickets for the Mussel Throw Down are $21 and can be purchased here or at the door on the day of the event.

Construction Started at 100 K Street, NE

Construction started this week at 100 K Street, NE (corner of 1st and K Street, NE). This 222-unit residential project is being developed by Equity Residential and should be completed in 2018. The property will include a public plaza facing K Street, NE.
