Talk Nerdy to Me

The face of journalism and storytelling has changed in a BIG way in a very small amount of time. Podcasts are everywhere, and they're bringing all kinds of new voices to the forefront of our cultural zeitgeist.

Join us on Tuesday, March 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. for our next Nerds In NoMa discussion: "I'm Totally Starting A Podcast": Learning to love the mic. We'll be in the lobby of 1200 1st St. NE chatting with our panel of podcast powerhouses.

Moderating is Lauren Ober of NPR's The Big Listen, the podcast about podcasts! Joining her are Amber J. Phillips and Jazmine Walker of The Black Joy Mixtape, Will Warren of Washington City Paper's Washington City Podcast, and Erin Saul of Dude, That's F****d Up.

Beer, snacks, and good conversation await you. Let us know if you can make it!

Nerds In NoMa is sponsored by Advantage Financial Federal Credit Union.

Rope Jousting, You Say?

Join REI to celebrate the start of Spring at the March 30 Member Jam! The festivities will take place at REI's D.C. flagship store at Uline Arena (201 M St. NE), where you'll enjoy free food by Himitsu, Timber Pizza, Rasa, and Lulabelle's Sweet Shop.

Oh, you wanted more? Enjoy a cold Ballast Point beer (or five) while the sweet live tunes of The Fly Birds play in the background, followed by DJ Diaspora on the 1s and 2s.

You want even MORE? Join Sill Life at the succulent planting station and take home a sillarium (REI's version of a terrarium) or enter the Rope Jousting tournament to win an REI tent!

All are welcome, but there are extra perks for REI Members, so don't forget your member card. Grab your ticket today!

It's getting gastronomical around NoMa! Here's some of the upcoming deliciousness to be excited about:

Carving Room Kitchen & Bar's second D.C. location will bring breakfast, lunch, and dinner to M St. NE in just a few short months. Expect great burgers and breakfast sandwiches, plus classic deli fare with a Middle Eastern twist.

Buredo will be freshening up your lunch plans this spring. Whether you go for a burrito-sized sushi roll or opt to make it a salad, you can't go wrong. We couldn't be happier to get our fish fix at this locally owned establishment! Look out for Buredo on the corner of 1st and K NE.

Trader Joe's — 'nuff said. Will you start by perusing the reasonably priced cheeses, seeing what's fresh in the produce section, or stocking up on some way-better-than-average frozen meals? No matter how you slice it, Trader Joe's March 30 opening day is going to be an exciting one for the neighborhood. (BONUS: TJ's is hiring!)

But wait, there's more! Blue Bottle Coffee opened at Union Market this past weekend, and O-Ku and Shouk will be here before you know it.
