Winterfest Begins on November 30

We're just weeks away from the second Winterfest at Wunder Garten: Presented by NoMa BID, which will run for 17 days: Friday, November 30, through Sunday, December 16. As with last year's holiday festival and market, you can expect to find:

  • A makers market on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays featuring a variety of local vendors.
  • A Christmas tree lot offering multiple sizes and helpers to bundle your tree for transport.
  • Special seasonal drinks and food options to get you in the holiday spirit.
  • A beautiful, Instagrammable artwork from Wunder Garten's artist-in-residence, Hernan Gigena.
  • Fun community events like the Night of 1,000 Santas Dance Party, dog-friendly gatherings, and a Santa photo session.

Learn more at WinterfestWG.com, which is being continually updated as the event draws closer and plans and schedules are finalized.

Speaking of the Holiday Season ...

Here's what three NoMa-area businesses are doing this year to get into the spirit of things:

  • Hyatt Place Hotel: For November 16–30 and December 14–30 stays at 33 New York Ave. NE, Hyatt is offering a special "NoMa Neighbor" rate of $89/night (breakfast included). To book, head to washingtondcuscapitol.place.hyatt.com and enter code 90346, or call (855) 527-1297 and ask for the "NoMa Neighbor" rate.

  • Wells Fargo Bank: To help fight hunger, through December 30 the bank is partnering with the United Way to turn its branches into food banks. Drop nonperishable food items at Wells Fargo's NoMa outpost (1200 First St. NE) or any other branch across the nation.

  • Legal Sea Bar: The Union Station seafood restaurant (mezzanine level) will be offering a Thanksgiving Day dinner special from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. for $24.95 per person and $8.95 for children 12 and under. Learn more at the Legal Sea Foods website.

NoMa Parks Updates

Last month we let you know that the K9 turf in the dog park portion of Swampoodle Park would need to be replaced. We’re pleased to report that the old turf is currently being removed, and the new turf is expected to arrive for installation this week. We’ll be announcing a ribbon-cutting date and time very soon and hope that you will be able to join us!

We're also continuing the celebration of the M Street NE underpass Rain installation on November 8 with banana pancakes in the morning and Yoga NoMa–led yoga sessions in the evening. See you under the train tracks tomorrow!

News From The Belgard

The Belgard apartment building (33 N St. NE) is filling up with residents, and now there are more exciting developments there. First, the building commissioned French artist Astro (Instagram) to create a massive mural for the east-facing wall. Have you seen it yet? It's hard to miss — and might be the tallest artwork in the District.

And second, they've signed up Menomale, a popular Brookland pizzeria, and its sister company Salumeria, purveyor of cured meats, to take over ground-floor retail space — right by the upcoming Sweet Science coffee shop. Expect to be noshing on great pizza and salume next summer!
