Opening Next Week in NoMa: A Space for Hands-On Creation & Learning

Get excited — the D.C. Public Library's Fab Lab Pop-Up at NoMa will open its doors on June 26! Created from two converted shipping containers and sponsored in part by the NoMa BID, the structure was designed and built by BC Workshop and features colorful exteriors painted by local artist Marc Pekala. The Fab Lab will offer programs and classes featuring 3D printers, sewing machines, and a laser cutter. The space will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. every Tuesday and Wednesday, and 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the first and third Saturdays of each month. Sign up for a class today!

Fußball & Braus, a Perfect Combo

NoMa’s favorite watering hole, Wunder Garten, has been opening early to showing World Cup matches, and the fun continues this week. Check out the current schedule at the beer garden's website, but don’t miss an opportunity to play hooky tomorrow! Croatia vs. Argentina starts at 2:00 p.m.; doors open at 1:30 p.m.

And if you're coming to NoMa this Sunday to enjoy some World Cup action, detour through the FARMFRESH NoMa Market just across First Street from the beer garden. There will be a dozen small soccer balls hidden among the dozen vendors. Find one and make a market purchase, and you've earned two free beers at Wunder Garten! Stop by the FARMFRESH table for full details.

Upcoming Summer Screen Films

What's showing at NoMa Summer Screen over the next two weeks? Join us tonight for Chicago, the smash-Broadway-musical-turned-movie about Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart, who find themselves on death row together and fight for the fame that will keep them from the gallows in 1920s Chicago. And on June 27 it's the action-adventure-thriller Mad Max: Fury Road. Root for Imperator Furiosa and Max Rockatansky as they lead a small group in a daring escape from a ruthless dictator in a post-apocalyptic landscape. Be sure to check the online schedule for information on food trucks and more. See you on the Lot at 1st & Pierce!

Welcome, Buredo!

You may have noticed a line snaking around 111 K St. NE around lunchtime on Monday. That’s because everyone’s favorite Kill Bill–themed sushi-burrito spot, Buredo, is finally in NoMa! Stop by between 11:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., seven days a week, to satisfy your fresh-fish-and-delicious-toppings hunger.

Halcyon House Brings International
Arts & Culture to the Neighborhood

Halcyon House, a D.C. philanthropic organization that focuses on the intersection of arts and social enterprise, is programming the District with culture June 21–24, including the NoMa neighborhood! By the People, an international arts and dialogue festival, is taking place all around the District; here in NoMa, an empty storefront at 1309 5th St. NE will be the temporary home for several installations and free performances, plus one ticketed performance. Check the schedule at the Halcyon House website for more information on what's going on locally and elsewhere around the city.
