NoMa and Union Market Come Together
to Woo Amazon

By now you've probably heard or read somewhere that NoMa is one of four neighborhoods the D.C. government is pitching in response to Amazon's search for a place to build what it calls HQ2 — the technology giant's $5 billion, 8-million-square-foot plan for a new corporate campus. But there's more to the story than that.

When the NoMa BID learned about this opportunity, we knew it was something not to be missed. So we reached out to our stakeholders and our neighbors in Union Market to come together and offer a unique, unified site that surpasses anything Amazon might want for HQ2. And we all agreed we have so much to offer that we needed to tell our story to Amazon.

Turns out, NoMa-Union Market not only meets, but frequently exceeds, Amazon's requirements, including unparalleled transportation options, robust technology infrastructure, a vibrant community amid other great neighborhoods like Shaw and H Street NE, a location at the heart of the nation's capital, and space: 12.6 million square feet, to be precise, far more than HQ2 needs. We also know that Amazon will feel right at home in a place where forward-thinking institutions such as SiriusXM, NPR, Mathetmatica, and the World Resources Institute reside near the creative entrepreneurs, doers, and makers found throughout NoMa, and especially in Union Market.

You can learn more about the story we're telling Amazon at our new website: (And our press release about this effort is available here.)

We invite you to assist us in spreading the word about NoMa-Union Market to Amazon AND THE WORLD!

  • Share the website on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram with these hashtags: #ObviouslyDC #HQ2 (and tag @amazon — and @nomabid and @unionmarketdc, space permitting).
  • Share photos of our big, new banner, shown above, which you'll find in three locations throughout the neighborhood. Be sure to tag the NoMa BID so we know about it!
We're sure you'll help out because you love NoMa and Union Market, but we'll throw an extra sweetener in there for good measure: The Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram posts that gets the most likes in the next week (by midnight October 26) will each be recognized with — what else — a $25 Amazon gift card.

Thank you for your support of NoMa-Union Market!

P.S. — As part of the run-up to creating this proposal, we also launched a completely new version of our website: cleaner, bolder, and easier to navigate. Check it out at and let us know what you think. We'll be adding more functionality to the site in the coming weeks and months, so watch for more.
