The Games We Play

Sadly, April 10 will be the last Nerds in NoMa of the season. Happily, spring has sprung in the District! That means it's time to get active, which is why we're bringing in leaders from D.C.'s booming, diverse recreation scene to talk about how they make the city their playground.

Whether it's running on the Mall, joining your office softball team, or playing a pickup game of soccer, there are many ways to get outside, break a sweat, and make new friends. Join us on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the lobby of 1200 First St. NE for "The Games We Play: Recreation in the Urban Space." Featuring Matt Liddle, REI's outdoor programs and outreach mid-Atlantic manager; Martin Espinoza, president/founder of Stonewall Sports; Robert Kinsler, founder of DC Fray; Najeema Washington, co-founder of Black Women Bike; and Joe Tezak, program manager for Capital Adaptive Rowing.

Don't forget to RSVP!

Beer Tastes Better Outside

And if you're hungry, CaliBurger will be on-site all week, every week, serving up burgers, fries, and other delicious options to tuck into.

Make Something FABulous

We are super-excited to announce that the D.C. Public Library (DCPL) is bringing a popup for budding designers and makers to NoMa! The Fab Lab Pop-Up at NoMa — Fab Lab, for short — will offer programs for all ages in emerging and computer-assisted technologies, along with equipment including laser cutters, 3-D printers, soldering tools, and sewing machines.

The Fab Lab will be located in two shipping containers on the corner of the lot at First and Pierce streets NE. If you’ve been by that space in the past day, you may have noticed the container installation has already begun. Watch for more news on the Fab Lab Pop-Up at NoMa and be sure to sign up for DCPL e-mail updates to stay in the loop.

Festival Season Is Blooming

Join world-class chefs, live bands, and local artists at Union Market’s District Street Fest this Saturday, April 7! The daylong, family-friendly event will feature food and activities from Union Market’s neighbors and partners, including an outdoor flower market from Trader Joe’s, story time and pop-up book sale with Politics and Prose, a pig roast with Cotton & Reed, breakfast sandwiches at Masseria, a soccer workshop with DC Scores, and so much more. The event runs from 10:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. Don’t miss it!

Take a Break and Engage Your Ears

Next Wednesday, April 11, head to the main hall of Union Station between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to enjoy a free concert by the National Symphony Orchestra. The performance, part of the orchestra's In Your Neighborhood series, will be conducted by new Music Director Gianandrea Noseda and will feature violinist Nurit Bar-Josef.
