Welcome to 2019! It's time to make some resolutions.
We've got a few suggestions that shouldn't prove tough to maintain.

Resolution #1: Geek Out More

The sixth season of Nerds In NoMa kicks off on January 15 with a discussion about the excellent, and diverse, K-8 public-education options in the neighborhood. With curricula that focus on character-building, expeditionary learning, sustainability and environmental stewardship, college prep, and bilingual education, each institution has found success in its mission. Enjoy beverages and light bites from Stellina Pizzeria as you hear from educators how they help students grow and succeed.

When: January 15, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Where: Lobby of 1200 First St. NE
Moderator: Ahnna Smith | D.C. Workforce Investment Council
Panelists: Michelle Johnson, principal | Mundo Verde PCS; administrators from Two Rivers Charter School;  J.O. Wilson Elementary School; Langley Elementary School

Resolution #2: Be Good to Your Body

Sure, your apartment building probably has a nicely appointed workout room, but sometimes it can be easier to maintain a fitness regimen when you're sweating with others. There are a number of good options around NoMa:

Resolution #3: Get Civic-Minded

What's going on in D.C. governance? How is the city addressing the needs of its citizens? Who is representing your neighborhood on issues of local importance? Here are a few ways to get started on the path to greater civic information:

Resolution #4: Take Your Pup to Swampoodle Park

Back in November, we opened Swampoodle Park at the corner of 3rd and L NE, which contains the first public, dedicated dog space in NoMa. It's got everything your pooch needs to enjoy playing off-leash, from a high fence and self-locking gates to an agility structure to an undulating landscape of K9 dog turf. We know many of you take your pets to the large lot at the corner of First and Pierce NE, and they are welcome to be there — as long as they remain on a leash. It's against the law to have dogs off-leash anywhere but a certified dog park. This year, let your pup run free in a safe and legal manner!
