Art All Night 2017: Call for Artists!

North Capitol Main Street is putting itself on the map as an arts destination in D.C. The organization has partnered with Main Streets across the city again this year to host Art All Night: Made In DC on Saturday, September 23, 7:00 pm to 3:00 am. Local businesses, community institutions, and public spaces will transform into pop-up galleries and performance spaces for an evening of art in all its forms. Art All Night events will take place throughout the District — and of course, North Capitol Street/NoMa! And the best part? It’s all FREE!

Art All Night is currently putting together a fabulous array of art installations and performances. If you are interested in showcasing your work, the organizers would love to hear from you. Fine artists, dancers, special performers, musicians, designers, fashionistas, architects, writers, comedians, improv, sculpture artists, food and drink artists, and more — all are invited to participate. Sign up as an artist at this link, or learn more at northcapitoldc.com and artallnightdc.com.

August 2: Beat the Streets Comes to NoMa

Beat the Streets — a partnership between the Metropolitan Police Department, local social service agencies, and local vendors created to help reduce violence in neighborhoods across the District — is a summerlong community outreach series of events. This Wednesday, August 2, from 2:00 pm until 7:30 pm, Beat the Streets arrives in NoMa and will take place on the 100 block of L Street NE, between First Street and the underpass. Community members of all ages are invited to enjoy musical performances from local bands and artists, free food, as well as a street festival-like environment with local vendors and literature distributed by local social service agencies.

If you are a NoMa business that would like to join the event, click here to let the Beat the Streets organizers know. This is an opportunity to promote your business however you'd like (flyers, menus, tastings, coupons, stickers and other giveaways), but please note that you cannot sell anything on the street. Beat the Streets will provide tables and chairs, and businesses are encouraged to bring tablecloths, signs, or other branded items.

NoMa Summer Screen: August 2 & 9

As NoMa Summer Screen 2017 enters its final month, we've got a great slate of films that run the gamut: taut thriller, comedy, historical drama, blockbuster action, and a tale about the reporting on Watergate (the original "-gate") that brought down President Nixon. Here are the films scheduled for this week and next, and the food trucks that will join us. We hope to see you there!

August 2: The Ides of March
Ooh Dat Chicken / Goodies Frozen Custard / Popped Republic

August 9: Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde
Swizzler / Westray’s Finest Ice Cream / Popped Republic

***REMINDER: All the President's Men, which had been scheduled for July 5 but was canceled due to rain, will be shown on August 30.***

Get Your Sweat on at CycleBar NoMa

CycleBar NoMa is a new indoor cycling studio, next to REI and close to Union Market and H Street. This not like your average ride on the Metropolitan Branch Trail or a protected bike lane — it's an exciting, heart-pumping party on a stationary bike. All through the month of August, you can take your first ride for free; just visit the CycleBar website or stop by the studio (1105 Delaware Ave. NE) to sign up (code: NOMABID1). And don't sweat the small stuff: CycleBar has shoes, water bottles, towels, and other essentials covered. Just go and sweat it out. With a variety of instructors and classes, CycleBar is ready for everyone.

August 9: Let's Talk About Parks in NoMa

The NoMa Parks Foundation invites you to a community gathering to learn about NoMa's parks projects. Join us at the Hilton Garden Inn for a community conversation starting at 6:30 pm, and a light dinner at 6:00 pm. Come out for more details on the playground, dog park, and plaza at the "NoMa Green," a naming exercise for the "NoMa Green" and 3rd and L Parks, and updates on all things parks! Click here to let us know you'll be joining the event.
