Redpolls landing at the Gilley Museum
Dropping leaves, falling temperatures and tourists leaving are all signs winter is upon us. One delightful sign is the arrival of the common redpoll. Unlike winter, which arrives like clockwork year after year, the redpoll generally makes an appearance during interruptions every other year. However, on Sunday November 13th from 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM these birds will land at the Wendell Gilley Museum in Southwest Harbor as the subject of this year’s one-day carving workshop. The Museum’s Carver-in-Residence, Steven Valleau, will guide up to ten participants through the process of carving and painting a redpoll. The finished product is suitable for a hanging ornament.   It is necessary to register in advance for the workshop.  Fees are $20 for Museum members, $25 for non-members.  Beginners are welcome.  All tools are supplied
Museum members are encouraged to join us every Friday, weather permitting, from November through April 27th  for our Members’ Carving Club. First meeting is November 4th and all gatherings will be from 1-4PM. Come with a project you wish to begin or a work in progress. Cookies, camaraderie, and conversation are always on hand.
The Wendell Gilley Museum is open through the end of October, Tuesday – Sunday from 10-4 PM with last admission to the galleries at 3:30.  For November and December the Museum will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10-4 PM with last admission to the galleries at 3:30.
