Don't miss Birds in Art before it flies to Texas
Sunday, October 9th will be the last day to enjoy the celebrated traveling exhibition, Birds in Art, organized by the Woodson Art Museum of Wausau, Wisconsin at The Wendell Gilley Museum.  The flock of avian-themed art by 60 artists from around the world will be flying onward to its final venue at the Michelson Museum of Art in Marshall, Texas.  Visitors to the exhibition have been highly effusive about it, expressing their amazement with the quality and variety of art on display.  Popular favorite pieces include the “wild-hair day” African Crowned Crane bronze sculpture by Paul Rhymer,  Andrea Rich’s woodcut,  Plum-headed Parakeets, Swedish watercolorist, Peter Nilsson’s, Whimbrels, Peonies & Chickadee, rendered in acrylic on hardboard by English-born Julia Hargreaves, fellow-Brit Robert Cook’s oil on linen depicting a beachcombing Eurasian oystercatcher, and Mallard Pair,  carved by Ohio resident, John T. Sharp.  Bird species depicted in the show range from the familiar to the foreign.  Test your avian knowledge by trying to identify (and in some cases, find) the birds in the art works.  There’s no need to bring binoculars for a great view of these birds, just be sure to make it into the Wendell Gilley Museum before they fly south. If you have already seen the show, you know it’s worth a return visit and a nudge to friends who have procrastinated.
Museum hours through October are Tuesday through Sunday from 10 AM until 4 PM, with last new entry to the galleries at 3:30 PM (closed Monday).  There will be temporary gallery closures from Tuesday October 11 through Friday, October 14th during exhibition changeover.
