WHAT'S ON

The CLIMARTE Poster Project continues to make its presence felt around Australia. The posters have recently been exhibited at the Moreland Energy Foundation conference, Melbourne Girls' College, the Transition Tatura Film Festival and the limited edition print suite is currently being exhibited at the City of Yarra in the Richmond Town Hall.

The limited edition print suite has been acquired by a number of important collections including the National Gallery of Australia, The State Library of Victoria, and the City of Yarra and the University of Melbourne Carlton Connect Initiative. There are still some suites available, so if you are interested in acquiring a set please contact Guy Abrahams.

CLIMARTE is proud to be supporting the Environmental Film Festival Australia as it traverses the country this October showing films from Australia and the world’s most talented and socially-conscious filmmakers. Films about our climate, food, land rights, nuclear power, bees, birds and whales come together, fuelling a conversation about how to make the world a better place, now and into the future. The Creative Time Summit—the world's largest international conference on art and social change—is headed to Washington, DC! Occurring in the nation's capital just weeks before the 2016 Presidential Election, the Creative Time Summit DC will take this important moment to collectively consider what it might mean to radically transform the current state of democracy. Shaking up the political landscape, worldwide social movements—from Arab Spring to OWS to #BlackLivesMatter—are now ingrained in popular discourse. The 2016 Summit offers a platform for citizen-led strategies and grassroots movements working within, as well as disrupting, electoral politics.

As we work to push forward the ideals of human rights in practice, what does it mean to actually occupy power in a future as yet unwritten? What does it mean for a people's movement to wrest control? What forms of governance would that require? What role do elections play in this moment? What are the forms of self-organized power that we can learn from? These questions will shape the conversations and presentations at the Creative Time Summit DC.

For the world premiere of Cape Farewell’s annual Lovelock Art Commission at the Museum of Science and Industry, Paris-based artists HeHe – Helen Evans and Heiko Hansen - have taken inspiration from pioneering climate scientist James Lovelock and the ground-breaking science to bring atmospheric science powerfully to life across the MSI site.

These exciting new pieces depict micro-climates, pollution and artificially engineered clouds in provocative new contexts, blurring the boundaries between the natural and the man-made. The three pieces ask us to consider society's role in environmental destabilisation, and ways forward to a cleaner, healthier future.
