Developing Finnish Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation between Europe, Africa, Asia and the LAC region


1. FinCEAL Plus continuation
We are happy to announce that the Ministry of Education and Culture has awarded continuation funding to the FinCEAL Plus Project for another two years 2017 - 2018. We look forward to the continued cooperation with and service to the Finnish Science Community!

2. Cross-sectoral cooperation at the centre of discussion in the UniPID & FinCEAL+ Science, Technology and Innovation Crossroads Seminar 2016
UniPID and FinCEAL+' main event of 2016 was the Science, Technology and Innovation Crossroads Seminar- Global Lessons from Cooperation among Academia, Private and Third Sectors, organized in Helsinki on 27-28th October. Over 90 participants joined us for the event, which included key note speeches, case presentations and workshops aimed at identifying challenges and opportunities for academia-business cooperation in Third Countries. 3. FinCEAL+ Singapore-Finland Research Seminar on Smart Innovations for Health and Education was a success!
Singapore-Finland bi-regional research seminar focusing on Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation in Health and Education was held on October 18th in Singpore. The half day seminar gathered together over 70 experts on Health Technologies and ICT in Education and related areas from Industry and academia for developing concrete joint innovation and research cooperation initiatives. 4. Results from FinCEAL+ Event Grant Call for Asia and the LAC
The Call was open between September and October 2016 and targeted the STI cooperation with Asia and LAC within the FC+ regional themes. We received 13 applications from 8 Finnish institutions, and awarded 6 grants. See results

5. Results from FinCEAL+ LAC Pilot Call for Research Visits from the LAC region to Finland
The pilot Call was open between September and October 2016 and targeted research visits from the LAC region only. We received 8 applications from 6 Finnish institutions, and awarded 3 grants.

6. News from FinCEAL+ Grantees

FinCEAL+ Asia grantee Nafisa Yeasmin, from the University of Lapland, co-organized and attended the "Food and Health Security of Rohingya Refugees in Bangladesh: Human Rights Perspective" in Dhaka, Bangladesh in September 2016. The seminar was dedicated to the food and health security of Rohingya Refugees, a minority group living in Myanmar. The Researchers from Finland and Bangladesh had a great opportunity to meet to discuss about related joint research collaborations and broaden their knowledge on this international crisis. Public stakeholder consultation on Horizon 2020
The European Commission has launched a public stakeholder consultation which will feed into the interim evaluation of Horizon 2020. This interim evaluation will help improve the functioning of Horizon 2020, and will also be an important element in preparations of a next EU research and innovation programme. More information
