Are you the kind of person who tends to have a lot of drama in your life?  You know, a lot of volatility, stress, ups and downs, and so forth?

Money drama, emotional drama, relationship drama, work drama, health drama, etc.?

Here’s my theory. Let me know if this resonates with you:

We create drama in our lives when we’re unclear about our desires OR when we know our desires but don’t feel like we have the power to make them happen.

Allow me to clarify.

Every single one of us has a TON of energy and power.  And that’s the truth.

Yet when we don’t have an outlet for that energy, it gets smushed around and directed to other areas that might not be so awesome.  

: Financial. Maybe you’ve got debt, maybe you consistently have JUST enough to tide you over to the next paycheck or client. So you’ve got major ups and downs, and it is STRESSFUL as all hell…and it takes so much of your energy and attention that it’s hard to focus on other things…like creating your awesome future.

: Relationships.  Maybe you tend to get into arguments with loved ones or friends, maybe you cheat on your partner, maybe you spend money and hide it, maybe you feel resentful or jealous, maybe you do excessive stuff for other people because you don’t want to let them down or be judged.  Maybe you don’t let yourself be in relationships and isolate yourself.  There are MYRIAD ways to cause yourself relationship stress.  Relationship drama makes it so hard to see past the moment and into the future.

: Work. Maybe you do stuff at work that could possibly get you into trouble if you got caught—spending excessive time on social media, stealing supplies or money, waiting until right before your deadline to start on a task, gossiping about coworkers. Or maybe you’re BORED—there’s monotony and no challenge, which is soul-sucking and draining.

: Health. Maybe you eat crappy food. Maybe you don’t exercise. Maybe you drink, smoke, do drugs. Maybe you spend way too much time watching tv or on your computer. Maybe you don’t do what your doctor or health care practitioner recommends.  Your body is a temple, and if you don’t care for it, it’s going to be hard to do everything you want until the day you shuffle this mortal coil.

There are more, of course, but hopefully you get the idea!

If any of those apply to you, you’re not alone. Happens to everyone...but it doesn't have to stay like this.

Because the problem with living a draining-drama filled life is that when we uselessly expend our energy on stuff that doesn’t serve us, it means that we’re not spending it on things that do.

(I know I'm an abundance coach, but honestly, there are some things that are hours in the day and our own precious energy!)

And by that I mean: living and creating the life that you desire.

What I’ve seen, in my own life and with my clients, is this:

When people have desires and dreams that they GO FOR, the extraneous and draining drama in their lives decreases, in favor of the magical drama of exploring new things and living up to one’s highest potential.

So not all drama is bad!  But…bad, draining, stressful drama is bad. :)

Here are my three majorly important keys for ending the draining drama:

1. Know your desires.
2. Know you are worthy of going after them.
3. Take action.

Knowing your desires is key, because if you don’t know what you want and need at your core, how can you go after them?  

And ONLY YOU can know your desires.  Not your parents, not your partner, not your kids, not your boss.  YOU!

So, action step: Uncover your desires.
Take 15 minutes out of your life and contemplate.  Get a journal or some paper and answer some questions and do some deep thinkin’:
  • What are you passionate about?
  • What you would do if you had no limits, if you had all the money and time in the world? Where would you go? What would you do? Who would you spend time with?
  • Think about yourself when you're nice and old.  What are 5 major things things in life you are really, really proud of yourself for having done...or what will you regret if you don't do? (A great book about this is Gay Hendricks' 5 Wishes.  Highly recommend!)
