Best Wishes in 2014

from Lisan and MosaicJam

2013 was a fabulous year, with many interesting developments on a personal and professional level! I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for your interest and support in the community mosaic projects I have worked on, am working on, and will be working on. I share these projects on MosaicJam's facebook page, if you would like to follow our activities. I look forward to future collaborations in 2014 and keeping in touch!

Summer of 2013 marked the creation of "The Treasures of the Ocean" mosaic mural with children and adults from 12 different countries. In collaboration with Accueil et Intégration BSL and an environmentally-conscious and maritime-focused primary school, the mosaic was launched at the Intercultural Festival of Rimouski in August 2013.
Highlight of my year: getting selected as one out of two winners in the whole of Quebec for a cultural mediation training bursary offered by Culture Pour Tous. This award allows me to be trained with a professor who is also the head of Social Psychology department at the University of Québec in Rimouski. Here's the TV interview (in French).  At the award ceremony and cultural mediation conference, I met people who allowed me to have a better understanding of the work of a cultural mediator, and gave me ideas to help shape the work that I am doing - using arts and culture as a tool and medium for social change and social inclusion. Stay tuned on this thread!
A Christmas treat this year: I participated in the Marché Interculturel de Noël, representing as a mosaic artist from Singapore. What a great experience! I look forward to dig deeper into my Singaporean roots in my personal creations. At the Marché, I got to interact with visitors, and got to work on impromptu mosaic pieces with kids and their parents who stopped by to say hi!

What's coming up!

Launching an exciting start to 2014...

In preparation for Chinese New Year Festival 2014, I'll be working with 8 participants from various cultural backgrounds on mosaics that include Chinese cultural inspirations with elements from each person's cultural identity and roots. In collaboration with the Chinese students' association at the University of Quebec in Rimouski, the final mosaic pieces will be exhibited at the University's art gallery for two weeks.
Great news to kickstart 2014: I've been accepted as an apprentice in Laurel True's studio and Global Mosaic Project's expanded professional development training program this February! As part of the 10-day intensive program in New Orleans, I will be working on and contributing to a 30-feet mosaic mural that will be installed in Sausalito, California. This apprenticeship will allow me to gain experience in working on large-scale murals with precision-setting techniques.
2014....Bring it on! In the new year, I look forward to working on meaningful community mosaic projects that bring people together, that celebrate diversity, and that help us discover the sparkle of creativity in each one of us. I am ready to go where life wants to take me. Because: "Life is about the people we meet and the things we create with them."

wishing you faith, hope and love,
