How Will Your Compound Translate in 3D?

A recent paper from our collaborators at the Zuppinger lab at Bern University Hospital and Cellular Dynamics International (CDI), published in Tissue Engineering Part C: Methods, compares cardiomyocytes derived from iPSCs grown in traditional 2D cell culture to 3D cardiac microtissues formed using InSphero hanging drop technology.  Results show that 3D cardiac microtissues are free of necrosis and recapitulate vital cardiac functions, making them an ideal model system for testing new therapies and detecting cardiotoxicity.
