Climate Battery Installation in Crestone, CO!

Vanessa and Jerome spent a couple of days in Crestone catching up with old friends and giving a presentation at the Grange.  They sold books and plants at the local farmer's market and sold the remaining half a truckload of edible landscaping plants to Hannah Strong and her daughter, Susanne.

Jerome was involved in overseeing the installation at Pamela's new greenhouse and putting on an informal workshop educating the folks there about the ins and outs of climate batteries.  He also picked up a couple of exciting new consulting projects along the way.

He was able to reconnect with Bob Peterson, a former CRMPI intern from the 90's, who now consults for greenhouse building and soil health and also met Gordon Chu who will be part of our team for the upcoming summer courses.  Gordon will be offering his expertise in the kitchen, you check out his bio on our website.

Crestone is definitely a place we plan to return to soon.
While in Crestone Jerome sold and signed his book, the Forest Garden Greenhouse, for some very happy folks.

The Apex of Permaculture & The Pollution Solution

This spring Jerome hosted an Agroforestry workshop in Litibu, Mexico. The course was designed as a charette where students actively participated in developing a sustainable design for Rancho Virginia. Plans were started and plants planted - we'll be gathering back in Litibu in November 2016 for another charette to deepen the designs now in place. This April event was a huge success and is the kickoff for plans to start an international agroforestry school. We have locations in the loop not only in Litibu, but also here in Colorado, down in Florida and Cuba, and over in Hawaii. Kickstarting in 2017 - look for more information from us on that!

There has been a lot of inspiration gained from Eric Toensmeier, a former CRMPI intern and author of The Carbon Farming Solution. This book will be used as one of the Agroforestry school textbooks, and if you haven't gotten a copy for yourself yet, head over to to pick one up.

The Forest Garden Greenhouse
Spring Book Tour

Jerome hit the road this season, welcomed across America to promote his new book The Forest Garden Greenhouse.
He was a presenter at The Mother Earth News Fairs in Ashville North Carolina, as well as Belton, Texas. Here in Colorado he toured around from Steamboat Springs and down the front range in Boulder and Denver.
Stay tuned to our upcoming events age on our website for more book signing events taking place next fall.  If you havent gotten a copy of his book yet, head over to or to pick one up! You can also contact us directly at and we'll send one over to you!
Jerome and Vanessa rocked out about 175 grafted trees this spring! Many varieties were accomplished including multiple Heritage Fruit Trees.
Each workshop and class tour that came up here was able to get an upfront demonstration from Jerome on the ins and outs of grafting.
Check out the nursery link above for more details!
Jerome has spent a lot of time mentoring and consulting with folks from around the country who want to start or improve their own permaculture practices. This month Val and Eli of Permaculture Paradise and the Food Park Project down in Florida came to consult with him and tour CRMPI.  It was exciting to meet people doing such great work! If you're working on any projects and want to gain extra knowledge, reach out to us to set up some consulting time with the guy who has been doing it for 30+ years!

Aug. 22 1943 - June 21, 2016
John was one of hundreds of people to volunteer their time towards making CRMPI a better place, but we count him as one of our greatest friends.  John was always ready to bring his skidster up and do the work for any major construction project we had in the works.   He helped excavate major thoroughfares through CRMPI and excavated the spaces for our wood shop and newest greenhouse, CORE.  John loved hot peppers and would come up to get Thai peppers from us so he could make his wonderful jams. Many years ago John found that some grapes we grew here on site were great for making wine, so he took some home an started growing them himself.  Most recently, John was planning to build a stone bench with us in our tropical greenhouse, Pheonix.  We hope to still install it here at CRMPI as a memorial to honor his invaluable contributions and the positive, lifelong impression he left on CRMPI.  We look forward to joining other's who loved having John in their life at the local Celebration of Life later this summer.  John, we will miss you and the zest you had for life.
If you missed this month's Living Permaculture show on KDNK,

We can help with not only design of your greenhouse, but the planting, soil development and IPM aspects of owning a greenhouse as well.

Still Wishin' List...

  • A sailboat of at least 40 ft. to transport our "Permaculture Afloat" project
  • A volunteer with photography/videography experience to help out and document our practices

We would love to hear about what you're up to, send us your art, writing, poetry, or info about projects you're involved in and it might show up in our future newsletters and posts!
