Stefanie Macfarlane, APRA Message From Our President

Chances are that you witnessed some pretty spectacular fireworks this week as we all came together to celebrate our nation’s birthday and the many freedoms we now perhaps take a little less granted. Even if you stayed home, there seemed to be fireworks going off everywhere. I hope you had a safe holiday filled with your favorite traditions.

I took the afternoon off work one day this week to sneak off to a theme park with my daughter and found myself very glad to see the return of so many travelers (ok, and a little nostalgic for the short wait times). I’ve noticed a lot of job postings in the tourism sector, as well as other sectors hit hard by the pandemic, and am hopeful all who are seeking employment will find their perfect match soon. Be sure to check out the job bank on our website as new positions are posted regularly.

Our PRSA Orlando Around Town Member Meetups have been going great. These small, in-person networking events offer an opportunity for members to get together on a smaller scale. There should be an event coming to your side of town, so check the PRSA Orlando events page and watch your inbox for your invitation. We also will be hosting a virtual Idea Swap on Thursday, July 15. Our informal discussion will focus on social media and specifically discuss strategies for handling social media trolls. Register today!

With all of this hot, sticky weather, nothing cools me off better than a tasty bowl or cone of ice cream. In fact, anyone who knows me well is aware that ice cream is my absolute favorite food on earth. That said, I couldn’t be more excited about our virtual August program which will feature Sean Greenwood, Ben & Jerry’s director of public relations on Thursday, August 19 at 10:00 a.m...

The Inside Scoop on Ben & Jerry’s Public Relations
Thursday, August 19th | 9:45-11 AM
 Registration details are coming soon!

Save the date for our August program which will include a delicious download on Ben & Jerry’s activism with Sean Greenwood Ben & Jerry's “Grand Poobah”/director of public relations. He’ll share a “freezer-case study” on B&J’s championed public relations that includes taking a stance through its 40+ years in the ice cream business and why it considers itself an aspiring social justice company that happens to sell ice cream. Included will be many stories of the company’s Social Mission and products that serve those campaigns with a focus on racial justice. Greenwood has worked with the progressive ice cream maker since 1988 and considers Cherry Garcia his favorite flavor.

Our Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are integral elements of a vibrant community and essential pieces to our organization’s mission. PRSA Orlando is committed to fostering a public relations and communications network where all of our members are valued, respected and supported. We champion diversity and inclusion at all levels of our organization by involving chapter members who represent a broad spectrum of differences in our programming, leadership, as well as providing opportunities for all voices to be heard and represented.

This is not about checking a box. It is transparent and intentional. Our inclusive approach to what we do and who we are is a priority that ensures the success of our chapter, our profession, and the communities in which we live and work.

D&I Resources from PRSA Orlando

Member PRofile: Alyssa List

During the month of July, our country celebrates a well-known and highly anticipated holiday—Independence Day. However, there are many other observances and celebrations throughout the month, including Parent’s Day, which is observed on the fourth Sunday of every July. For those who don’t know, President Bill Clinton introduced Parent’s Day by signing a congressional resolution for “recognizing, uplifting and supporting the role of parents in the rearing of children.”

What better way to celebrate this national day than by recognizing board member and new mother, Alyssa List. In this member profile, Alyssa gives us insight into her career, the impact PRSA continues to have on her life and her experience in motherhood so far.
