A very happy new year to all our newsletter subscribers.
The Montreal Highland Games and CeltFest wish you a healthy and prosperous 2011.
If you haven't visited the website recently, you are in for a pleasant surprise. Our new web developer, Tyrone Smith, has completely revamped the look and navigation features of our website. I think you will find it very attractive and the French section is now operational.
Here are a few notes to keep you up to date on the work being done for this coming summer:
-
We will be returning to the pipe band competition format and will incorporate the stage presentation by having the bands compete on a stage facing the audience. We will also make the stage multi-levelled so all performers can be seen and heard.
-
We will incorporate a number of free interactive activities including; teaching the basics on the bagpipe practice chanter, Gaelic lessons, amateur Scottish athletics, and learn to play the Bodhran (Irish drum)
-
We are working on a whisky tasting venue.
-
The Saturday CeltFest will feature some modern Celtic rock/punk type music.
-
The Saturday rugby matches will have ongoing commentary so that the audience understands what is going on.
More ideas keep coming up and we will keep you updated on new projects as they materialize. If any subscribers have other ideas, please let us know and we will do our best to incorporate them.
On The Day
There will be a screening of the documentary On The Day at the Brossard Cineplex Odeon on February 9th and February 13th (1:00pm). This is the story on the Sprit of Scotland Pipe Band. The band was formed by assembling many of the best pipers and drummers in the world for the sole purpose of competing in the World Pipe Band Championship in Glasgow. A fantastic story and should be phenomenal on the big screen. Call the cinema for details.
